If your trailer has electric brakes I would strongly recommend using them. Use a good controller such as the Prodigy. The reason for this recommendation someday you may be forced into an emergency stop where you will be standing on the brakes to keep from hitting some idiot that has cut you off or coming head on on a two lane. Without the trailer brakes and a good controller even a small trailer will push you around like the pit maneuver you see on the cop videos. No fun if this happens. I look at it like cheap insuarance and piece of mind you will able to stop under controll.
