Also you will never drain all the water out of your tank and lines. Any rotting water left will just be diluted at your next fill up. So I use bleach every time.

I do sanitize twice a year because of the AZ heat and I get water from lakes and streams while boondocking. One cap full of bleach per 1000gal is normal limits. I let this sit over night then drain. This is what the AZDEQ recomends. We run several million gallons of well water thru our commuinty well system each month to supply 400 homes and in over 40yrs have never had one complaint and we pass a strict AZDEQ water test each month.
Then I add 1 cup of vinegar per 60gal and let that sit over night. This can be used to water the plants or lawn. You could also drink if you didn't mind the taste of vinegar, I do so I don't. Vinegar will "sweet'n" any water by removing odors or bad taste, both caused by minerals in the water.
Water can be stored for about 6mths if not exposed to the sun, oxygen, or extreme heat changes, in a NSF container.

Seems awfully weak to me, those caps on bleach bottles are pretty small. Did a little googling and found this, a Cl- disinfection dose chart from the AZDEQ. For 1000 gallons that cap needs to hold 2.56oz
