My husband wants to repaint the exterior of our 1996 Kountry Star Newmar, himself. I'm worried and frightened. Any info good or bad would be appreciated! Thanks

From what I've seen most paint it your self units look like paint it yourself. But I have seen a few exceptions. A very old Yellowstone aluminum sides that had been restored for lack of a better word looked like new with very nicely painted sides and a refurbished interior and was used frequently at one of the campgrounds we frequent. But my opinion is that this unit is the exception from what I've seen. You will need to let us know what the structure is, aluminum, gel coat, or?? in order to help with any suggestions on what might work.

Unless your Husband is a paint expert, I would suggest he leave it to the experts in this area. Most DIY's look like DIY's.

If he has a compressor and gun that will do the job, why not. Even if he has to buy the equipment, it's probably worth it. Thass a lotttta work though.
It's a 12 year old coach, if he wants to do it just for the satisfaction I say go for it. If he was my neighbor, I'd be out there helping(or at least telling him how he should be doing it).
Come-on, life's too short to not give it a shot. If he screws it up, take to a shop and have them re-do it, at least he'll be able to say he tried.

More power to Mr. foreigntrees!
I'm thinking of doing the same thing to our '94 Carri-lite. The only thing I want for sure is the wifes opininon on color(s).

Where would you plan to do the painting? In your driveway? If you use a spray gun you will get over-spray all over the neighborhood. My truck got covered in black over-spray from a guy spraying fifty yards away. You also can't control wind, bugs etc. Preparation before you paint is more work than painting and making sure the surface is clean before you start. It is too late once you start, trying to wipe away dust etc. As others have said unless you have done this before, I would say forget it. If you make a mess, how much will cost to undo the mess and have someone repait it? It sounds like your wife isn't too enthusiastic and you will have to live with her when it looks like sandpaper!!

I'm not a "green" person but... Spaying outside is just plain bad. Paint booths have downdraft exhaust with filters for intake air. The overspray will carry a long way. What color is your house now? It might take on a different hue when he's done. To save money line up the job with a professional company and do all of the prep work yourself. You know washing, sanding and patching. Tow it to the pro's and let them do the masking final prep and paint. That should save at least half the cost.
Good luck and thanks for keeping up appearances.
I could be wrong, your mileage may vary
