I, personally, don't believe in extended warranties unless you are having a problem with a particular item that you think may cost you big bucks in the not too distant future.

I, too, stay away from extended warranties. That is a bigger money maker for the dealerships than the original sale itself.
Sure, some will say that they were able to cash in on an extended warranty. Some will also say that they won a lottery or won big at a slot machine, but not many. Most will say that they have thrown away that amount of money, just like the ones that funnel money into the slots. They walk away and never see any good come from that expenditure.

Save your money and use it to go camping. If I'd have bought one of those things on every vehicle and RV over the last 45 years I'd have spent enough money to pay for the 2008 diesel Dodge I bought last fall. Only once in that time span would I have MAYBE broken even on the cost of one of those "things."

My concern with ex warranties is the viability of the underwriter. With financials in the tank, and RV sales and probably writing of new ex warranty contracts, are the companies going to be there if/when you need them?

You don't need it. When the time comes and you think your covered they come up with something else at the dealer and you end up paying more money. We were still under the warranty and my water heater caught fire and we didn't notice until we got off the mh. Thank God nothing happen to us it was just that, and apparently it turned off by itself, all we noticed was the ooze left on the outside and that our water heater didn't work anymore. Well the dealer said that we didn't give it proper maintenance and we ended up paying for that and some other things they found. $$$$$$ So, my advice don't buy extended warranties. I won't buy one anymore.

OK and thanks. That was my initial thought as well but just a thought on the internal workings of the RV. Jayco has a two year warranty anyway so will check with them if they have an extended warranty when I visit the factory next month. Dane

Now here's my take. I purchase warranties all the time. I make out on all of them for two reasons, my warranties have been running about one to two thousand per vehicle, on my truck camper Good Sam covered everything in the coach for $300.00 a year.
Now if I'm not making it on service and I almost always do ( where can you go for service and not walk out spending a grand ) where I really make my money back is when I sell my vehicles. The warranties are always transferable, so I up my price higher than the other guy selling the same thing, throw in the warranty and I sell my stuff in days rather than weeks or months.
The last three vehicle sales I had the people just couldn't stop talking about and making sure the warranty was transferable, which told be they were buying the security of the warranty.
Now if I trade my vehicles in, I just cancel the warranty and get the unused portion back, no harm no foul.
There are many sides to warranties, my brother is a warranty freak, buys it on everything, printers, tv's appliance, cell phones, auto's and he has always made his money back in spades with replacement products. his GM vehicle now he has over 5k in invoices on a $1,300.00 warranty package - not including the car rentals.
He ran over his cell phone, got a new one, dropped in the toilet, got a new one. $3.00 a moth for a $300.00 cell phone, ya it's worth it - he's a little over $500.00 ahead.
