You can get it rolled into your loan, but you are written the check at the time of the loan where you then pay them.
That's NOT the way it is done in Texas or Louisiana. Taxes, title, license are included in the paperwork. You either pay the dealer or it is rolled into the financing. Dealer then pay's the state and local govts' their cut of the sales tax. No checks are written back to the buyer.
Taxes, title and license was written into the contract and financed. Howard RV was suppose to pay the state the sales tax and the DMV for the title and license. When received the title from the Missouri Attorney General's office they informed me that they couldn't help me with the sales tax or title/license fees. Or the money for the warranty. I was told that I would have to pay it and then sue Howard RV.

It looks like DamonOwner08 lives in Illinois and bought his MH in Missouri. If so, it is possibly like what happened to me. I live in Louisiana and bought my MH in Mississippi. The dealer collected state sales tax from me, then sent me a check after I got home for me to purchase the license, pay state sales tax and local parish tax. He did not collect enough to cover parish tax, so I had a sizable expense when I got home. I think that normally, out of state dealers do not pay tax but only collect it, then send a check back to you. By the way, just FYI, the dealer did not even give me a paper tag. Did not know what would happen when I hit the state line. Fortunalely, nothing happened.

In Missouri if a customer wants to finance their sales tax, it goes onto their contract and then the dealer will issue them a check for the amount of sales tax they financed. Some dealers will tell the customer that they will finance their sales taxes and title fees and will go to the DMV on the customers behalf to apply for title and license. According to the DMV in Missouri when a customer goes off a dealer lot, that customer is supposed to have his own paperwork and title in hand to go to the DMV himself. Some dealers tell the customer they will handle the customers titling and license as a service to them and that their title and license will be mailed to them. Not all dealers but some don't actually have the title or Certificate of Origin to the unit they are selling and this is a way to stall for time. Again legally when that customer goes off your lot they should have ALL the paperwork for that unit to title themselves. Howard's were financing customers sales taxes and not giving that money back to the customer or not applying for the title work for that customer.

I took delivery on 15 March and observered motorhomes being driven away from the dealership and saw the REPO man towing away travel trailers. NOT one person in the dealership would answer any questions about what was going on. I asked for my registration and license plates and learned that Howard RV failed to get them. To make matters worse, the delivery manager gave me a Missouri temp tag for 90 days which was illegal according to my local police department. When I asked the delivery manager when I would get my registration and license plate, I was told we will call you. On 15 April 08, I learned of Howard RV's foreclosure on Channel 2 news. When I dropped by to the dealership, there were only a few travel trailers and the dealership was closed. I immediately file a complaint with the Missouri Attorney General's office and the Better Business Bureau (BBB). The BBB contacted Randy Howard who was not helpful at all. Matter of fact, he informed the BBB that he didn't understand why he received their letter. Randy Howard is a real loser!!! His business was a scam that played on innocent victims. Shame on him and Ronald Howard!!! The Missouri Attorney General's office was able to get me my title so I could register my motorhome. Unfortunately, I had to pay the sales tax and registration fees again. With my motorhome, I purchased warranties which Howard RV did not pay. I received a letter from one warranty company that confirmed that they were not paid and would not honor the warranty. The warranty company informed me that the Howard's were filing bankruptcy and their attorney is Peter Darragh Kerth, SUITE 1700, 101 S. HANLEY, ST LOUIS, MO 63105 Business: (314) 615-6000. Many of you are probably like me and have similiar situations. My next step is to hire an attorney as I'm out a lot of money. Good luck to all of you that have been hurt by the Howard RV poor business practices.
We had a situation with our trade in TT that was not paid off and resold before the dealer went bankrupt. We only found about it through our evening news.
My wife called the lending institution and found that it had not been paid off. We did not know this since my wife had made payments several months in advance. There were no warning flags. Never officially contacted by anyone of the situation.
We were contacted by the dealer's attorney and assured that the money was there and that the debt would be paid off by a certain date. That date came and went.
My wife was in contact with the Federal Bankruptcy official's office and they assured us that the note would be paid. Which they did but the bank never recieved the original check. Six weeks later, after another check was cut, and only when we contacted the bank, did we find out that it was finally paid off.
Meanwhile, two payments came due while this was being resolved, which we made to protect our credit hoping to recoup that money later. After some hard life's lessons we value our credit and have worked hard to protect it.
We recieved a check just today for less than half of the two payments and were TOLD that this is our settlement. WE DIDN'T SETTLE ON ANYTHING.
We know your pain and aggravation. We hope that it all works out for you. Just be patient and unrelenting.
Where have I been? I haven't even heard of this! Wow! A guy I used to work with (he was the counselor at my old school) is married to a Howard. No wonder when we spoke last he said he wasn't taking any RV vacations this summer. And my friends just last year turned over their title to their house for a 5er they bought with a trade in and another Pilgrim TT.
I can say that I've been very pleased with Apache Village. Now, getting to their service or parts dept by phone is a royal pain, but they've done right by us and our Jayco.
Wow - I must have been under a rock lately! Oh no, wait, I've been in my rv out of town most of the summer! That explains it! :-)
I'm so sorry to DamonOwner08. I know I would be devastated by what's gone on. But at least the Atty Gen office was able to get you a title!
EDITED: I see Apache Village has renamed this Midwest RV Center, but you can tell it's them because the logo looks a lot like the Apache Village one. I also looked at some pictures, and the salesmen we bought our Jayco from is pictured there, too.
This would be great news for me if I could take my Jayco there to be serviced and not drive 45 minutes away!

We are on our 3rd unit from Howard. Its a shame that alot of folks were caught up in the after math. They were nothing but Loyal to us in our purchases and service requrests. I really hope all of you that have been affected in a negative way get satisfaction in one way or another.
The folks now in control at Midwest RV have taken a stand to their possible to complete the deals and help where they can while they untangle the issues that remain from Howard RV.
The service department and finance folks that stayed with Midwest are working hard to please ALL, Howard and new Midwest RV customers to the best of their ability...

We did get our title on our Class A motorhome bought at Howard RV via the attorney general's office but had to pay the sales tax again which was painful. Howard's clearly knew this was a scam and would not be paying the sales tax. After the length of time this was going many people in the office must have known as well! Everyone should at least file a formal complaint online with the Mo Attorney generals office, listing names of whom you worked with, even if you are not going to sue. Are there any groups of people taking action to sue as a class to share legal costs? Thanks Jack02

Well, once 11-28-08 rolls around you may have a problem! Just kidding.
I would agree with you on Byerly. We didn't get the warm and fuzzy from them that we got from Apache. Seriously consider going back, it's a new business now.
For those of you ripped off I really feel for you and hope the state will be able to take care of you properly.
