Well, I had to put Toots down today. I posted the other day on this question and to update you all, I brought her home yesterday and she just got worse every time I looked at her. We tried to get her to drink and eat but she just wouldn't do it. DW was crying when I got home from Dr's office and said we had to talk about what to do. I took her back to Vet and asked him to let go from this world and into the next. We just couldn't watch her suffer any more. I can only hope to feel her jump up onto the bed tonight and say her good byes and let me know she is OK. Man, Did we ever love her, it is so hard to let her go.

My heartfelt condolences. You did the right thing. Too many pet owners wait way too long to make the decision. It's a hard one-one I will most likely be facing shortly with my setter. She will say good-bye no doubt and her memory will always be with you.

We had to do that with our Sofie last Sept. and it truly broke our hearts.
We know we did what was the kindest thing we could do for her as you did for Tootsie, I can tell how much you loved her.
I'm sorry you have to go through this and I'm sorry for your loss.

I'm so sorry for you...and yet believe me, you made the right decision. And you had a vet on your side. Our sheltie Zack ran in front of my van accidentally and I didn't know it till the next day. My son found him in the yard, dying. We took him to the vet at midnight. Vet said he had a torn diaphram, take him home, maybe he'd make it. He came home and just paced and sloshed (you could hear fluid buildup). He would walk to a corner and retch, but nothing would come up. He was suffering so badly. Our vet let us know he didn't appreicate the midnight call. So I was reluctant to take him back (like an idiot!) Finally I went to bed at 4 and told Bill "Zack's dying and I can't watch it." We woke up at 7 and he was dead by the front door. He's buried in the yard by the house and I grieve everytime I drive by his grave (it's marked.) I feel so guilty for NOT doing what I knew in my heart to do - call the vet and put him down.
Please accept my condolences and also my congratulations on being a responsible pet owner.

I'm very sorry. I don't know what I would do if I lost my dog, Sparky. She is what makes me happy when I walk in the door.
My hearts out to you. Don't worry, you'll see your loved pet again some day.

Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to you and your family, we have had to make that hard decision with our loved dogs over the years. Only one dog we did not, he died peacefully in his favourite spot in his sleep. He was 15 years old and just died of old age. We still think of all our dogs and still miss them but know we made the right decision when the time came. Keep all the good memories and know they will be waiting for you.

It has been said that we keep our pets around for us, even when they are suffering and ready to be put down. It was one of the hardest things to do when we had to put down our long haired dachound and then a year later our Welch Terrier. Cried like a baby both times. We still tear up when we think of them. You did the right thing.
