My family and I are relocating from SE Michigan to Concord, NC and I'm curious to know if I'll still need to winterzie my 30' Prowler. Rather than blow out the lines I've continued to use RV antifreeze while living in MI.
I'm also curious to know about some camping locations in NC as well. We pretty much stuck with the state parks in Michigan as they recently improved many of them and they were rather nice.
Welcome to the Tarheal State. I'm from Eastern NC and it does get cold enough to freeze water in the winter. All I do is drain the lines, gray, black and water heater tanks and put a little of the pink stuff in the sink drains and I'm good to go. I hope that helps.

Hi,,welcome to North Carolina, I live on the crystal coast, and my sugeestion to u is,,depending on use,,we use ours through winter to be careful of what you leave in your tanks, I made a blunder once and havent down it twice, I came back from the trip,,purged my grey/black/galley tanks at my clean out on my property, I usually leave some water after i flush at campsite with some anti bacterial soap to give it a dishwasher like wash while moving, so i flush it agin at home,,but i did that,,once anf left my lines inside alone,,well 3 days later in the middle of december it dropped below 21 degrees, got very windy, well my water pure system has a canister which holds the filter that say dont freeze on it,,lol,,I went into camper and as i got back by bathroom, my feet were wet, so I started pulling the cabinet open,,low and behold a broken canister, cost me 30 bucks to replace, but i then pulled the blue/red pressure lines in the TT to drain lines. Funny thing I went on my next trip,,when the new canister came in I set it in the sink in the TT, never installed,,so I told my dad as we were setting up , I always do the outside stuff first, sewer line, cable, service line in, and water line,,but i asked him to hook up the water,,,well he turned it on,,lol,,my son came running out dad theres water all over the floor,,im like ,,crap,,,so hense during cold season drain your tanks,,only if you dont plan to use it during winter months would i recommend you to completely winterize it. Hope this helps
Welcome to the area & forum. We live 10 north of you on I-85. In our area we do get some winter weather (some yrs more than others), so we usually "winterize" sometime around mid to late October - that usually consists of blowing out all line & some pink stuff (hubby takes care of all that). We only do the nessasary stuff to keep our RV safe, because around here one weekend it'll be snowing & the next it's camping weather, so we're always ready to go if we have the time.
When you get settled check out Dan Nicholas Park in Rowan County (www.dannicholas.net). We only live 3 miles away & still go there. We also have some great mountain camping in the area too & the beach is only a few hrs away. Welcome to NC.

I'll be working off of I85 at exit 60 LOL. The former CTC building visable fromt he freeway.
I'm very anxious to do some camping and mountains intrigue me. My Dodge RAM (Hemi) had no trouble pulling the camper through the WV mountains, so I'm hoping it's the same in NC.
I have to admit I'm deathly afraid of snakes and they are not really a concern in MI when camping. Do you come across them in NC while camping often? I know it's something I'm just going to have to get used to eventually and it comes with the territory.
That area of Concord is really growing. Hope you like the area when you finally get here. If you have any questions please feel free to PM me.
As for the snakes. Our daughter saw one a few weeks ago while we were up in the mountain. She was walking one of our dogs and it crossed their path..needless to say she turned tail & went the other way. We've been in NC for 16 yrs & I've only seen a handful of snakes. Just be aware of your surroundings.
Been living on the side of a mountain for the past ten years and have only seen one garter snake about six years ago. As for winterizing, I do as it gets down to -7 or so here at times. I just make sure my tanks are empty and blow the lines out w 40psi max air and pour some RV antifreeze in the "P" traps and toilet. Works for me. JMHO
Snakes,,lol,,here,,ummm ,,yes,,,Ive lived here since I got in the Marines back in 86, now retired from the Marines we stayed, but I get them in my backyard, usually about 12 -16 inches, last one i chopped it up with my weed wacker while cutting grass, funny thing is while living in the bush while training here for 20 yrs and camping I never found a snake, so,,not sure,,have stumbled on a few gators,,which are popular here as you get closer to the coast,so my fear is them and the black bear. snakes are nothing compared to the gator and bear. lol,,I used to live in Jersey near the Pine Barons,,always heard the folk tale about the Jersey Devil,,that used to scare the******out of me,,,do a google and type in jersey devil read the story,,youll get a good laugh,,good camp fire story,,,I live off highway 17 lots of Campgrounds on or near the 17,,u get a chance to come east towards coast check out White Oak Shores Camping and RV resort,,very nice place. Have fun and good camping
I'm also in Salisbury, just north of Concord. We like to use our camper in the winter so we don't do any winterizing. Our camper is at our house and if it is going to be 30 or above we don't do anything, but if we're expecting anything below 30 we will turn the heat on about 55 for the night and open the cabinet doors that contain plumbing. We do have a sealed underbelly which helps with the freezing, don't think I would try this without the sealed underbelly.
As for where to camp, we too like Dan Nicholas. We all get Carowinds passes for Christmas each year and camp there a few times each summer. As for the beach, if you like the crowds, pools and video games there are several campgrounds in Myrtle Beach but we prefer to get back to nature so we go to Hunting Beach State Park in Murrels Inlet, quiet area, large lots, uncrowded beach, a castle, and lots of bike trails. In the mountains we like Catawba Falls Campground in Old Fort. This one is just off I-40 before you get to Asheville. It's a small family owned place but it's quiet and several sites are right on the water. If you go about half a mile past the campground the road dead ends to a trail to Catawba Falls (1-1/2 miles back to the fall I think). This is our favorite falls of all we've been to. Catawba Falls is also less than a half hour drive to Mount Mitchell, Biltmore House, Chimney Rock, and lots of other attractions.
Snakes - Haven't seen any in a long time until this weekend and ran into two of them. Do some research so you know what kind they are. (When you're camping at Dan Nicholas they have a building that has all of the local snakes for you to learn to identify.) If you come across a King snake let them be, they will kill any poisionous snakes that may be around. We also like black snakes as they keep down the mouse population in the barn. Copperheads however get the ax!
