Here's how I tow my 04 Wrangler w/o any miles on the ODO:

Tow bar, safety cables & lights hooked up
Transfer case in NEUTRAL
Transmission in gear, or Park
Ignition key turned one click toward start
Parking brake off

If you are towing with the transfer case engaged and the transmission in neutral, you will be burning the transmission bearings out very soon.

Look in the owner manual for towing set up. follow procedure to the letter and you should have no problem. If you do not set up exactly as specified have extra cash handy as you will need it for repairs.
