I just took delivery of a 2008 Jayco Eagle 299RRLS. To my surprise it came with a 50 amp power cord. I has only one a/c unit, no washer, dryer, and no apparent need for the 50 amp hook up, except that there is a place for washer-dryer, if you removed a cabinet. I ask the walk through guy (no electronics tech I'm guessing) and he says sure get an adapter and a 30 amp cord. The book, of course, says no way. I weight 140 and after a long trip that 50 amp cord feels every bit of 150, but I don't want to burn up may new Eagle.
What do you electronics gurus out there say. Thanks

I have a 40 foot Forest River Cherokee which came with 50 amp and my seasonal site was only a 30 amp connection. I used an adapter and have NO problems. I also have a full sized house refrigerator as well.

An adapter and 30amp cord will be fine. You'll just trip the feed breaker before you trip the main in the RV. No biggie there. Your individual circuit breakers will protect just like they do on 50 amps.

The breaker will watch for any overload. You just need to watch voltage or get a device that will do it for you.

A second A/C is optional, but the trailer is setup for all options.
I have an '06 Designer and when we are traveling in cool weather I don't pay for 50 amps, I use my adapter.
They make shorter cords and I would like to have one, but I don't want to sell my youngest grandchild to get one.
The adapters feed both circuits so you don't lose power on any circuits.

Some HOT day when your DW wants to take a shower and your LP is low, and you want to warm up your dinner in the micro, all at the same time, you will appreciate that 50A setup. Plug it into the 50A outlet when ever possible. When 50A is not available, use an adapter.
I think you will find fewer and fewer 30A rigs will be available in the near future.

You have a 50 amp because the trailer is probably prewired for washer / dryer and 2nd A/C. As long as you don't have any of that you can use and adapter and a 30 amp service. If you turn on too much at one time you will trip the 30 amp breaker on the pedestal. No harm done.

First a question.. Is that cord hard wired or is it one you plug into the side of the rig, then pulg into the park?
If it's hard wired and it's easy enough to do it visit a RV store and get a 50 amp, yes, 50 amp, pigtail. (This is a short cord with plug) replace the long cord with the pig tail and put the long cord in storage. If you wish you may put a FEMALE END on it
if it has a Marineco connector on it (Bit yeller thing you push in and twist) then just put it in storage
At many RV stores (Camping world carries it) you can get a special "Dog bone" connector, it's 30 amp plug on one end and 50 amp Marineco connector on the other, NOT CHEAP (marineco connectors cost a lot of money) but less expensive than just the connector by itself.
Then use 30 amp cords from there.
In fact that's how I'm powering my 50 amp 2-ac class A just now
Save I'm only using one AC, and next to nothing else, not even the televisions
Nothin adds excitment like something that is none of your business
