I would like to start a discussion on "Double Towing a car/suv/truck" NOT the legality, though an important issue and already in a thread of its own, but to keep this thread on the technical/mechanical aspect of setting up a double towing system for a truck, fiver & auto.
I have gathered these questions for starters but for you experienced double towers please feel free to provide any additional mechanical information you feel will assist. For any one else out there that is considering double towing feel free to jump in and add your questions to this subject.
How long is your fiver?
What kind of car tow bar and who did you have install it on your fiver?
What kind of brakes are on your fiver? electric or disk or combo or air etc
How long is your truck?
What brand and size engine in your truck?
What kind of brakes are on your truck? i.e. air
Truck Transmission? i.e. automatic, manual etc
What car/SUV are you towing? i.e. Jeep, Saturn, Chevy, etc
How long is your car?
What kind of transmission in your car? i.e. automatic, manual etc
How did you choose the car to tow? i.e.: already had, towability
What features did you specifically look for in the vehicle you tow?
What brand and configuration of tow bar did you choose? If possible please include a link to the website of your product.
If not a tow bar, then what tow dolly or carrier did you use?
What did you have to consider when it came to a braking system for all 3 units? i.e. wiring capacity, power, "weight of Truck ___ Trailer___ Car___" etc
Did you "hard wire" your braking system or use a brake buddy type mechanism?
What are the steps involved in hooking up your car to your fiver?
How long does it take you to hitch up or the car only?
Having set up your system and a few miles under you belt, what would you do different?
Feel free to answer all or just one, any info appreciated.
Thanks you.
