I found that 1 of our vent covers over the upper bedroom was broken and the bath is cracked.

I bought 2 replacemtnts - exact replacements for Ventline vents.

The hinge is just a rolled edge and the mating is the same but a little smaller to fit inside. Each end has a small tang to bend outward to keep it from sliding out.

What I cant figure out is how to attach the crank arm. When the vent is in place and hinges in place the arm wont reach the large end of the slot (hole) to be installed.

When the hinges arent mated, and the arm is attached, you cant slide the hinge together.

Anyone know what I should be doing or need to do? I dont want to take the whole vent out as it will break the seal to the roof which we just had re-sealed.

Thanks.
Bruce

Can't remember how I did mine it was a few years ago. Have you tried it from the inside after the top as been installed. You need to remove the screen.

Hi John,

I cant figure out how to remove the screen either. The handle comes off with 1 screw, but the screen seems set in from the outside as it has a lip that keeps it from faliing inside.

Remove the trim inside, then the screen, then the operator (crank).

I had all kinds of problems trying to replace mine. I called Sunline before they closed and got the instructions. As Chris said you have to to it from the inside of the TT, by removing the trim. I believe there were four screws that I had to take out and then the process was pretty easy.

I beleive you remove the inside trim and then take the screws out that hold the crank assembly in place and drop the crank assembly down. Now slide the crank assembly end that slides in the vent cover itself into place on the vent cover and then by minipulating the crank handle either up or down, you can get it back to where the screw holes line up and reinstall the screws.

It's all done from the inside except sliding the vent cover into place. One problem I encountered was that when the hinges were mated they didn't. The dealer told me to spray with lube so they "break over" but I never got it to work. I finally drove a round tent stake through the vent hinge and opened it up. Worked fine then.

For those who might have to replace a Vent cover in the future, here is a web site that shows what the "Hinge" type might look like. Make sure you get the right replacment so the "Hinges" will mate.

Thanks again for more help.

For the benefit of those who might need information, I was able to get a PDF file from their Customer service via their website. By the way, the Hinge diagram was the only way I could determine the brand. Thanks, othertonka.
