Magician,
Thanks for your approval. LOL
Maybe you could further explain how to do the pop3 for those who only use outlook.
Big jump for you from West Texas to Virginia. Heading for the Thousand Trails in Hershey?

Thanks very much everyone for all the good info. I'm actually using AOL mail now and have for probably 10 years and I have all the filters set as high as they will go.
I'm also using the mail program that came with my Vista machine, windows live mail I think its called because AOL doesn't like Vista. Window live gets it from AOL and I read it without being online. I thought about changing addresses but after 10 years I kinda hate to lose it as people I haven't talked to in years I hope still have my address in case of an emergency or something.
I will go back and read the posts again and get that mail cleaning program before its too late and also start up a new address with probably Hot mail and start phasing out the old address.
Thanks again everyone for all your time!

I keep 2 e-mail addresses. One is for family and friends that I correspond with, and the other is the one is a Yahoo account I use when signing up online or give to people that I'm not close with.
My yahoo account is full of junk mail constantly, and I browse it for decent mail once every couple of weeks. My regular e-mail that I check often only has "good" e-mail.
You might keep the old one, but create a new one that you only give to regular contacts.

Hey there Lapdog,
For a guy that seems to know more about most things than any normal being should, I'm surprised you need help with pop email. Check out this easy to find link on Gmail pop service:
http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=13273
For Yahoo pop check this link:
http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/original/mailplus/pop/pop-06.html
Let me know if you need more.

Magician,
Only trying to somewhat match your seemingly endless knowledge. LOL
I checked out the Gmail forwarding feature in the past and didn't like what it did forwarding all the downloads and such. If I had a DSL or Cable connection it would work fine, but as you know I don't have either of those connections.
Take care.

Lapdog,
I didn't make any assumption about the speed of your internet connection since it's not a material issue. Whether you open a document using internet based Gmail/Yahoo or download to your computer using an email client like outlook express, the data volume transferred is about the same.
If you don't have high speed internet, recommend you try it. Can you imagine the volume of surfing you could do? The speed would seem almost like magic compared to your dial up connection.

Magician,
I don't download attachments from Gmail if they are very large. Most are jokes, forwards, etc and have been around for a while and get repetitive. Gmail will allow you to read the email without downloading the attachment. If you forward it to outlook it downloads the attachments automatically from what I recall about the test run I took a while ago. Maybe it has changed since then, but I am happy with my present Gmail service. To each his own.
I like my dial up speed over the phone lines. I get to enjoy surfing that much longer. My computer is a DX 486 and windows 3.11 won't support more than that.
Enough banter on this guys thread. Take care.

Interesting!! I wonder if there are any other 486's out there running windows 3.1. This might be a good topic for some discussion.
