Has anyone spent any time at Fort Cobb SP in Oklahoma, just west of Oklahoma City? We're looking to be there for a couple of days after Labor Day for some golf and lookin' around. Thanks.

Have not been to that one, but have been to most of the others in that area. Oklahoma has very nice state parks, but you can't make reservations at most of them, they are first come - first serve, (except at their park/resorts)unless they have changed their policies in the last year or so. You almost need to call ahead and get an idea from the park manager what he/she thinks the situation will be like and then leave early to get there to be sure to get a spot if leaving from Texas.

Been to Red Rocks just north of there and to Roman Nose, both of which are very nice, (I think there is a golf course at Roman Nose, if I remember correctly) so you could always go there if nothing available at Ft. Cobb, but we have never had a problem getting a spot in OK parks leaving from Texas.

Ft. Cobb State Park is 12 miles from our home, and we have been there many times. There are several RV areas around the lake, but the one you want is probably Sunset Cove, which is right next to the golf course. All the sites are back-in, with water and electric. There is a dump nearby. There is a boat launch here, and a marina atd Sunset Cove. Other areas have full hookups, but they are on the other side of the lake. We've never had a problem finding a spot; however, the sites fill up pretty quickly on major holidays. If you come, find a spot and set up. The park manager will come by sometime later and collect the fees.
We were there a couple of months ago - sites were $13 per night with an old folks discount.
If you need anything else, just ask.

Grey Mountain...thanks for the info on the park. We'll be arriving there on Labor Day afternoon so I would think that the majority of the people would be on their way home by that time. We're looking for a lakeview site with some shade and Sunset Cove sounds nice from the way you describe it. Thanks again. If you have any pictures let me know.

Grey Mountain is right stay on the Sunset Cove area. DW and myself went there last summer and we were unable to stay in the sunset cove area so we looked around the loops over the dam and we were discouraged because the sites that were worth staying at were occupied by "seasonal campers". It is a beautiful park and golf course on the Sunset Cove side. Go and enjoy and be sure to post after your visit.

Sunset Cove has long, back-in sites, most of which have shade. There is plenty of room between the sites as well. I haven't seen a lot of "seasonal" campers at the lake - there is a limit on how long you can stay. There are a couple of permanent sites, but those are for the person who runs the marina and for the camp hosts. It's called Sunset Cove for a reason. There are some beautiful sunsets there as you will be looking westward across the lake. Lots of waterfowl as well.

Ft. Cobb is nice, (it is more south than west of OKC) but you should try SW Okla at the Wichita Mt. Wildlife Reserve. We are at Granite Pointe RV Park near the base of Mt. Scott and are leaving Sun.July 20th. Check out the pics and review on www.rvparkfinder.net. Look for it in Lawton,Ok. Good luck...have fun.

When we go to the Wichita Mts. we have always stayed in Doris campgrounds inside the wildlife refuge. Granite Pointe RV looks like a nice alteranative spot when we need somewhere else to go. Thanks!
