If memory serves me right, Midway RV Park in Coos Bay, Oregon seldom gets over 68 deg. this time of year. They're located just down the road from Cape Arago, which has lots of seals and sea lions. Last year, they had some great whale-watching there. They've got a nice little clubhouse with bingo and other activities. They have a lot of seasonal residents, so it's a more mature crowd. A shuttle bus from the local casino comes thru regularly. And it's one of the few places we've stayed that has good, fully functional 802.11N wifi.

I would like to ESCAPE THE HEAT. We live in Florida so do not have to leave during the winter, but the summer months of June-Sept are really hot and we would like to go where it is cool. Where are the SUMMERBIRDS suppose to escape to?

Last time I looked South Fork, Colorado was just custom made for what you describe. The are several campgrounds, and one campground, Fun Valley, has mostly RV'ers working there and I think it has about 800 sites and is busy and fun.

About Labor Day the campgrounds in South Fork fold up and everyone regroups to head south.

If a person did some sightseeing along the way you could arrive back in Florida in mid-October ready for the winter months.

Traffic to Colorado from Florida is a nothing, you can avoid most large cities. Basically not really any mountain passes to negotiate (depending on how you go) I guess La Veta Pass would be your steepest grade and it's not much.. you should check it out next year. I bet you would have a blast.

It's a long drive for you but If you would like to be cool in the summer, I recommend the North West coast. We have been here (WA & OR) since the end of May and the temps have been 55-60 most times, only a few days in the high 60's. 2 days ago we drove to Eugene, 60 miles east and it was 95 there. When we left Florence, OR on the coast it was 51, when we got back it was 56.

If not for the Snowbirds there would be no activities. Most of the work to put on activities is done by the snowbirds volunteering there time and then they raise money to help pay for it.

If I were in your shoes, I would simply drive right up thru Hot Lanta, hit the mountains of NGA, visit the private run parks ON the lakes up there, and If I didnt find what I wanted in way of recreation, I would go on up to the Smokies, find me a rv park along the many rivers, rafting, white water, fishing, and I can assure you,, there will be plenty of people who are having a ball. If you cannot find a pot luck dinner, free beer, nice people , good company, card games, really every game you can think of, then you need to stay home, cause it just aint a happening nowhere. Oh, leave the a/c at home, you sure wont need it.

Check and see if Paradise Valley has any space available. It's located around Helen, Ga. An easy one day drive from Jax. In fact, there are many RV parks in and around the Helen area.

I know that it`s a long haul for you but, try Arrowhead R V Park in Cascade Idaho. Some group activities, but they also have a totem pole carving school.Which employes an instructor from the first of June until September.

They attract some of the best wood carvers, many come and stay the whole summer. They have a complete shop and you can show up with just your self and are furnished the tools and equiptment to carve a pole.

They also have other people who carve many differant things, a good way to spend the summer in the mountians of Idaho.
