On a recent camping trip with some friends of ours they had an unfortunate incident with their nine month old and as we have our own nine month old this really hit home and we never would have thought of this unless it happened to somebody first. They were preparing dinner and the little one was crawling around playing on the floor of the TT. He found the in floor heater vent and after putting his hand in, tried to remove it. When he pulled it out his ring finger caught the bottom and sliced open the finger. Approximately four to eight stitches later(they didn't know for sure because they couldn't bear to watch the little guy get stitched) and a ruined weekend!?!, all is okay. We immediately cover our vents with rugs and when we got home from the trip went shopping for new ones. We found some plastic replacements at Menard's for about a buck and a half. Not only did we replace the ones in the TT, but also the ones in the house.

We are new parents and we never would have thought this on our own....this is why I'm posting it here. Hopefully it can prevent the same from happening to someone else. On the same note I am encouraging anyone to post any other safety related suggestions for infants or toddlers that might help out myself or anyone else.

Thank you, goodday

My then 2 year old got ahold of the counter extension and jambed his fingers in the latch.Thes rigs are not childproof by any means. Wait till you get to the real fun stuff, like when they leave the water faucet on or fridge open. After that and a few more incidents like when he raised the front end up with the electric tongue jack and bent the rear jacks when trailer slid, that was scary, I still wouldnt trade the experience for the world. He is very proud of all the cool places hes been.

Good Advise. We use magnetic covers to keep dirt/sand out of the floor vents. I guess they would also serve as baby proofing.

After five kids, we have learned to get down on their level and if they can lick it, touch it , stick something in it, or move it then it needs to be looked at as a potential problem. We have also learned that the stuff we thought they could get never have a issue with turned out to be what they got into. Amazing a kids capacity for getting into things.

That same thing happened to my son in our house when he was a crawling baby. The blood just kept coming! Poor little guy!!!!! I never would have thought of that either. Good thing to post!

Our GC are a little older but still have the propensity for finding "safety violations" as we call them. They are at the age where they want to do everything for themselves and can usually do it...but...our 3yo has managed twice to smash his fingers in the TT door. He also managed to open the TT door while standing on the step, scraped his leg with the corner of the door, then fell off the step. I keep trying to kidproof the TT.
