Has anyone driven from Fairbanks north to Coldfoot or somewhere north of the Arctic Circle? I know there are lots of tours that go north, but we wanted to just take our truck (leave the 5th wheel in Fairbanks) and drive up there and come back. How are the road conditions?

Thanks, we're in River's Edge for four days. Anyone else here?

We drove all the way to Deadhorse and took the tour out to the Arctic Ocean. Great trip..would do it again.

You can leave the RV at the Hilltop truck stop about 15 miles out of town.

tenOC,
Is the road good enough that far to pull a 38ft 5'er?

We drove our 35' Class A to Deadhorse in August 2006. Took it slow - 5
days round-trip. Road was in overall good condition - at that time there was a lot of construction going on at Yukon River - not sure what it would be now. Didn't experience any problems with the big trucks - just tried to get out of their way when possible. Other than the MH being a muddy mess, no harm to the truck. We are planning another trip to Alaska in 2009 and will probably drive the road again. It's a not-to-be-missed adventure.

I flew over it about a year ago and it looked mostly paved all the way to the Yukon River. Gonna drive up to Atigun Pass area in about a month and a half if you are planning to go after then I can give you a trip report.

We flew over most of it last year and it looked OK from the air. I also talked to a few RVers who drove it with no problems.--same as others--go slow have a GREAT TIME. We will do it next time in AK.

I think it takes 24 hours to get "clearance" to go to the Arctic Ocean.
