We have a 2007 Fleetwood Prowler 280FQS, which has the typical dinette, 2 benches (storage underneath) and a convertible table. It's in the slide-out area. While the seating is roomier than we had in the old pop-up, I still dislike it, and can't figure out why. Has anyone torn these out and installed a table and chairs? And if so, were you happy with it? It sure would seem to be a major job, and I wish I knew why I didn't like what I have. Does anyone have another suggestion? We do tend to eat outside most days, but when it's very hot or very cold, I like to eat "in."

I find my dinette very comfortable and useful. Shouldn't be that big of a project to take it out and add table and chairs.

There have been quite a few threads concerning the 'dinette vs. table & chairs' question and many have replaced their dinette. We happen to like the dinette. It's a cozy place for meals, writing and computing and I love the storage under the bench. In our TT, I use the dinette for sleeping, too. DH sleeps on the pull-out sofa.

We tore out our dinette and installed a table and chair that has a cabinet along the wall. Here is a link to a thread with pictures and other mods. Furniture Changes

I know why you hate it, it isn't comfortable.
I have a rectangular table and chairs in the MH but it is still not roomy or very comfortable for dining purposes. Only a 2 more inches of space between the table and the wall and table and the sofa would make all the difference, but there is nothing I can do to gain that additional 4 inches, without having a custom table built to match the countertops, etc. as it does now.
In your situation, here is what I recommend:
Take out the booths. Get a drop-leaf round table and chairs. ( extension leaf would be great too) When the slide is out, you can use the whole table top. When the slide is in, keep the outer most drop-leaf in the drop-down position; you still have a usuable table and chairs and it does not block the pathway through the RV.

We hated the booth dinette, too, so I took it out. Used the original table, put a chrome pedestal on it, bought two very pretty chairs from a place in CA, upholstered the seats to match MH decor, bought two wooden folding chairs from Target (stored them behind the sofa) and we love it. Looks so much more spacious and it is definitely more comfortable! You will have to be sure there is no essential equipment under the benches and, if not, it is usually a matter of removing several screws and it is done.

There's pros and cons for both. This is our fourth TT and our first with table and chairs because we didn't like the booth dinette. Now with that said, we really enjoy the versatility of the table and chairs, room to get around, storage under the pads but they do have to be secured with bungy cords when going down the road. No extra bedding here - if you happen to bring someone along camping. We rarely do but our family sometimes joins us. So I guess for that rare occasion, the jackknife sofa is enough and a space on the floor for them to sleep. I can see why having a booth is more convenient in a motorhome - you could easily sit in it going down the road and I've seen that most have seat belts (in motorhomes).

It won't be that hard to take it out and replace with a table and chairs. Personally, I love our dinette!

Timely topic for me. I emptied the drawers under our bench seats to make sure we didn't need the extra storage and found out we do not. We currently own four folding chairs that are wood and have a cane back and a padded seat so I thought, why not use those in the trailer? Now I'm on the search for a small dining room table that will fit the space nicely. I don't think it will be too hard for me to take out the benches. I don't want to use the table that I have currently because I HATE the way it wobbles on those chrome legs. And yes, I have smacked it with a rubber mallet.
Any sources for small-ish tables are appreciated! Oh and another thing, I know that for my particular trailer it was an option to have a free standing table and chairs, so I know it won't look odd. AND there is carpeting under everything.
