We just got home from a short trip. When we got to the CG the DW was putting the chocks in and noticed the rear tire had the steel belt showing on the inside. The outer part and the face with the tread looked almost new. This is the second time this has happened to the rear axle only, inside of the tires and within 5,000 miles. I went to a trailer place today and the guy said a spindle may be bent or an the axle may be bent.

Does anyone have similar experiences or specific knowledge of this problem?

Sounds like a bent axle "alignment problem"

Sounds like the axle has lost its camber. Both axles should have an upward arch and overloading or rough roads may have caused it to bend. Just replaced both my axles which had lost camber. Some alignment shops can adjust them and get them back in spec.

bent spindle (axle stubs) at one end of a axle is common. Assumming the same end of one axle is the issue its a simple fix. Either replace the axle or have a trailer frame shop realign the axle stub. Most shops just bend the axle tube next to the spindle to get the proper aleignment. Contact a shop that does this type of work for their input.

We got back from our first trip out after the alignment.

Oh, what a difference it made. All tires are now wearing on their faces as they should.

I had to find a special alignment shop to do this as the car place and the trailer place wouldn't touch it.
