How can you say his truck "probably won't be adequate" when you have zero info on his truck? For all you know the kid could have a class 8 HDT sitting in the driveway. And by the way, he said his truck will pull anything "that he could afford" not "anything." The guy was asking an honest question about an RV issue, not soliciting your smarta$$ comments and baseless opinions.
Usually I just shake my head at stupid posts like yours, but this time I had to say something. If you don't have something useful to add to help the guy out, why not just move along to the next thread?
and I just shake my head at stupid posts like yours. why didn't this guy post what his truck was in the first place. saying it will pull all that he can afford is a silly statement IMHO. almost like he was avoiding the weight police.

Get a fifth wheel as they pull so much better than a tt. Use the Nada book for a guide, however we bought a new fiver for less than a year old one buy getting bids from internet dealers.
What kind you need, four season rated, depends on where your college is, how cold will the winters be?
I think your decision is really smart, compared to a dorm room.

His question was about pros and cons of TT's vs. Fivers, not "is this too much trailer?" He's got a one ton truck and because he's just starting college he can't afford a big trailer, (i.e. can pull "anything he can afford") - what is so silly about that?
You said "your truck probably won't be adequate." Why? Again, for all you knew at that point he had a HDT. The bottom line is you were being a jacka$$ for no reason.
BTW, you know the "weight police" aren't "real", right?
Around here, you can post a topic or question and by the 4th or 5th response be on a totally different subject. What I would do if you are uncertain about finding an rv all by yourself, post a request to see if there are any rv.neters living close to you that would be willing to help you find a good unit. I would think you can stir up somebody that wouldn't mind helping you out. Keep us posted with you results, questions, etc. Most of us will try to keep our responses related to your topic. Good Luck in your search.
