I'm looking to buy a RV. Not sure if I should buy a bumper type or fifth wheel. I know a fifth wheel will pull better, but I don't have a hitch in the back of my truck yet and I know those are quite expensive. I don't live near a big city, there's a guy here who sells some but they're all older. My first question is how is the depreciation on these things. I've noticed that a couple years of age really drops the price on certain ones. I've read on how to choose a new RV but those are a little pricey for me right now. The problem I've had is finding info on the used ones, esp when the company doesn't make that model any more. I've found a couple but the price seems too good to be true, for the size and options. The lastet is a 98 Thor Wanderer 320TS. Its a tri-axle with 3 slides, very nice inside. They're only asking $11000. Not sure if that's a good deal or not. Definetly need some help here. Thanks. I'm sure these questions have been asked many times and I apologize for the boring repeat.

There was a lot of BS in that and I apologize. I guess best question is how to find a good used RV when there's not that much info avail. on the model you're looking at?

Lots of knowledge posted in the FAQ area on this forums. Also know what you can pull safely. The choice of what to buy may depend upon what the better bargain is. Shop around. Lots of Rvs for sale. Know what to look for with water damage, etc.

I'm not worried about the weight factor. My truck can pull anything I can afford. I'm looking for something around 30ft or so, I plan on living in this thing year round for about two years while I'm in college(beats wasting money in the dorms). How would I find out about the insulation in an older model? I've read here that I need a four seasons RV. Any idea on which models are best for that?

Fifth wheel hitches are not that expensive. My current hitch will tow 18,000 lbs and it was $500 delivered. I installed it myself for a cost of $100.

Its a Dodge Ram 3500 4x4 quad cab diesel. It'll pull a 20,000 lb bulldozer on a gooseneck trailer. Don't see why it would have a problem with a tr-axle camper that only weighs 11300 lbs

Good reply on the truck issue. However, I'm sure if you stay around here long enough that someone will still tell you that you shouldn't tow with what you have. As for a trailer, I would definately go 5th wheel and with the price of fuel now days there are a lot of trailers for sale. Just be patient and when you find the one you like bargin hard. Good Luck.

How can you say his truck "probably won't be adequate" when you have zero info on his truck? For all you know the kid could have a class 8 HDT sitting in the driveway. And by the way, he said his truck will pull anything "that he could afford" not "anything." The guy was asking an honest question about an RV issue, not soliciting your smarta$$ comments and baseless opinions.

Usually I just shake my head at stupid posts like yours, but this time I had to say something. If you don't have something useful to add to help the guy out, why not just move along to the next thread?
