Went out to run the coach the other day - 1999 Tradewinds 7371, Cat 3126, freightliner xc - parked in my drive. Air pressure went at normal rate up to 80psi and stopped. I could hear it leaking when the press stopped rising. Never inflated the suspension.

Small black rubber flap at tip of pen is where it was leaking from. pushing on the rubber almost makes it stop. Below 80 psi it stops.

This is next to the left front wheel and looks like it is connected to the suspension. There is another one near the rt front. rt front is not leaking.

The flap looks like it is torn but may actually be a flap for pressure relief?
Here is another pic.

First...What is it?
Second...Can I fix it?
Third...How?

Brakes are nothing to fool with. if you do not know what it is and how to fix it, I think you need to go to someone who does.

It is part of the suspension system. It uses air from the brakes and as it leaks, the brakes only get up to 80 psi.

Those are your suspension levelling valves. Basically they monitor the height of the suspension at each wheel and supply or bleed off as required.

Duane,
Mine has always had a bleed on the right front. Your air pressure will never go any higher until you engage the air bags. It will then build up to 120 lbs. It usually stops bleeding shortly after you shut the engine off.

I'd start by exercising the valve but you need to support the frame on that side first. Take the rod off of the lever, should just pull off and the move the lever up/down. This is going to let air out of that air bag and the reason for blocking the frame. Exercise it with the engine off first and then with it running. Hopefully it will stop leaking and you can hook the lever back to the rod.

As others have mentioned those are your ride height valves and control the height at which the chassis lifts off of the axles. They are a small barrel type valve inside that rotates with the lever in which it is attached to. There are o-rings on either side of the barrel valve that seal against the valve and valve body and they dry out and tear over time. I have repaired them before if they are the type that can be disassembled but I still recommend replacement if possible. Mike.

Talked to freightliner and they sell, thru the dealers, the valves and do not sell a rebuild kit. Same valve front and back. Also told how to adjust them for the proper ride height.
