We have cedar lined closets in our Carriage Carri-Lite. We are fulltiming and when the weather got warmer, the smell coming out of our closets is horrible. The smell is pretty close to the smell of a cat spraying it, and we have no pets in our rv.
Two of the closets are empty now, not being used, I have used the vinegar to try to rid the smell, Febreeze and no luck in removing the smell. Went to the Carriage dealership and they had no suggestions but agreed there is a horrible odor which is emitting from the cedar..
Is anyone one else having this issue with their cedar lined closets.
It is not our clothes or shoes.

You can lightly sand down the cedar inside of the closet, to remove any "bad odors" and refresh the natural cedar scent. And if you can "borrow" a friendly dog from someone, and your poodle may not work...(a beagle would be perfect!) allow it to sniff around in the closet and note where his nose lingers, that'll be where the smell is coming from!

The smell maybe coming from behind the closet. Are these closets in the front cap?. You may need to remove a rear or bottom panel to find where smell is coming from.

I would find a way to remove the cedar paneling. Cedar is meant to discourage moths from hanging around and chewing holes in wool clothes - who carries a lot of wool clothes these days? To me, cedar lined closets sounds good in the sales brochure but is basically worthless.

If the smell is coming from the cedar you can scuff the wood and clear coat it to seal the odor. It wouldn't take long to splash a good coat on it.

It sounds to me that you may have mold behind the cedar. Better check for that and leaks.

Do you have washer/dryer prep located in the front closet area? I ask because we had a terrible smell coming from our closet area and could not find where it was coming from, nor could my dealer. Come to find out we had not used our washer for a month or so and the trap in the drain line dried up. Washed a load of clothes and it cleared right up.

Guess I better remove the poodle from my signature, she's at mom and dads.
We had a leak in one slide, we assumed it might be mold. We are having a terrible time with carriage on warranty items and have spent a fortune in gas traveling up to the factory and stuff is still not fixed.
We took our unit to Skaggs in Elizabethtwon, KY. They submitted a request for warranty work to carriage for the smell, indicating it was probably mold from the leak. Carriage is refusing to let them tear into the slide to take a look. We just came back from the factory on July 15, 2008. While we were up there for other warranty work, they refused to look at the closet.
We have already gone to the factory twice this year and they refuse to look at more then one item at a time, I just do not understand, management will not come out and talk with you and the warranty lady is definitely lacking in customer service.
We saved for five years up to buy this Carriage and have had nothing but disappointment with Carriage and the warranty work, I would never recommend a Carriage to anyone due to the customer service.
There I go off on a tangent when I just want to get the smell out. I see the suggestions on the string and i guess I will try some of them, but if it is mold, I have a worse problem. Thanks all!

If your unit is new and still under the factory warranty and Carriage refuses to fix a mold issue from a leak in the slide I think I would contact a good attorney. I would think a registered letter from a good attorney exposing the health risk to you and your family might get some action.
