We are looking at a new 07 on the dealers lot, price is discounted well. There are a few points that need to be addressed before signing and taking ownership, but when looking it over there was Eternabond on top of the dinette/ couch slide out. The tape was across the length of the slide where the trailers seal would go to the outer edge of the slide. When extended the tape was farthest away from the trailers side.
Normal condition on a side slide? (never had one yet)
Points to look out for? Water damage, etc...
It comes with a 2 year warranty, have them offer a 3-5 year on side slide leaks?
Other thoughts?

What brand are you looking at? Many RV manufacturers use EternaBond on new RV's, so it's a non issue and nothing should be read into it! I think it shows that the manufacturer is looking out for your best interests by using the best available materials. The 2 year warranty, along with proper roof, slide out and general sealant maintenance should keep your RV as new! Just grind them a bit on price, as they are likely not having a good month. If you want to see if you can get some freebies try having them throw in something useful like a MaxxAir or Fantastic fan, TV's, DVD player etc. Good luck!

Hmm, I believe mine has the same type of seal, although I don't know exactly if it's Eternabond. But whatever it is, it has worked extremely well for almost 4 years as there has never been a leak.
Have you check the slides from other fiver manufacturers to see what they use?

Completely normal, just hope that it's really Eternabond brand and not a cheap substitute that some manufacturers use. Sure beats re caulking every couple of years.

my old '97 5er with two slides has the Eternabond with cloth or probably a cheaper brand laying the full length of the 13' and 5' slides on top. Check out other same brand units for the same sealing materials/techniques.

Make sure this is part of this manufactures process and not a "band-aid repair" that this dealer used to cover up "lot rot". Also check the date of manufacture, just listing it as '07, it could have been built in '06. Check the same manufactures units at that dealer and see if they match what you are seeing on the slide. As always when buying RVs, beware and remember YOU are in control of the purchase.

If it's a Jayco then it's standard on some models. I know, for instance, that the Jayflight TT have it on the slide.
Just check another unit on the lot from the same manuf./model line.

My Copper Canyon doesn't have tape along the spot you are referring to. Would it be to my advantage to put Eternabond tape there and if so what exactly will it do for me??
Thanks in advance!

Went to the Jayco dealer nearby and seen their 5'vrs all had the tape on the slide. Then went back and looked at the one we were interested in and some others, they all had it too. Went for it and put our money down.
Not sure what the tape along the outer edge actually does, but seems most 5'vrs we have seen have it down.
