We just bought a new 5th wheel and it came with a Sidewinder hitch. My truck is a LWB and our last 5th wheel had a regular hitch and we never had a problem. I was a little hesitant about the Sidewinder but after our first trip I really like it. Our new trailer is a 36' triple slide and I can back it so much better than our old 32'. It takes a little getting use to when you look back and the trailer is swiveling at the pin box instead of the hitch but you sure can turn it tight. The ride is great as well.

Pullrite now has an adapter plate that only requires 4 allen screws to hold it on. It allows you to remove the adapter plate in 2 minutes so htat anyone can tow your 5vr.
Another thing to look at is the way the jaws lock on the other hitches. Pullrite is the only one with the jaws completely surronding the pin, not one of htose stupid little bars that slides behind the pin to hold it in place.

You need to focus your thoughts for a moment on one key statement in your post "I have been pulling TT for years and this is my first FW".
I was just like you, never pulled anything but bumper pulls all my life (and very proficient doing so) then I bought my first FW. Talk about a different animal towing and backing, jeeeez.
I bought a sidewinder recently and what a relief it handles very similar to a bumper pull not even mentioning all the other benefits already pointed out. Best money I ever spent. Good luck in your decision.

You say it pulls similar to a bumper pull. I hope it doesn't sway like a bumper pull.

Nope, no sway. The weight is still over the axle, but instead of the kingpin pivoting in the hitch head the kingpin is locked and the trailer pivots via a turret at the aft end of the pinbox. So, because the pivot point is closer to the bumper the trailer behaves more like a bumper pull when backing. It's great to be able to go 90 degrees if you really need to.

One thing before adding a Sidewinder is you might want to check with your manufacturer and see if they will still warrant the frame. I know some manufacturers (probably because of lack long term testing) will not back the frame if you install a Sidewinder.
Now before everybody gets excited and says that they have towed theirs for over XXXX miles and has never had a problem, I didn't say not to use it I just stated they might want to check with the manufactrer of their 5er or the frame company who built their frames. They may have legalize in their warranty that states that any modification to the original frame or components voids the frame warranty. If you don't care about it then have at it and enjoy.
This is IMO

Butch does make a good point. Ours was installed by Lippert when our frame was built and we do have a full frame warranty from them. I would check with your frame manufacture first about any warranty issues.

Prudent advice. Since my rig is a 2 (almost 3) year old Weekend Warrior I figured I have nothing (warranty wise) to lose anyway!
