Hey, Highways, I feel your pain. If I don't have my NFL, my DH winds up in the ER.
You originally posted in the FT forum. Do you FT? As I said before, we see many DISH setups out there, but way more DirecTV. IMO, that seems to be the FTer's preference. I actually do the tripod setup myself, every two weeks when we move on, and never have trouble. I'm no mechanical genius by any stretch, but if I can do it, it's gotta be close to idiot-proof! Getting the NFL Network is my motivation.
One tip I learned dealing w/ help desk folks, especially if you KNOW the answer, but keep getting runaround or no help - thank them politely, hang up, and right call back. Seriously, sometimes just another 'agent' can get you where you need to be. Happened to me! And now I have 800 channels, east & west coast feeds, DVR recording ability, you name it.
Good luck in whatever option you decide on. If you can't get it resolved by fall programming start, give me the address to the hospital and I'll send you a 'Get Well' card.
You can get the major networks with the waiver, but I believe what you end up with is LA, NY and one or two other big market stations.
The option that works best for us is to use the antenna for local channels and the major networks and Dish for what else we want to watch. The Dish program will also give you all the national news, I believe there's 5, maybe more news programs.

I have Dish, at home, and an HD DVR in the motorhome using a motosat 1000 HD, 3 LNB setup. I get everything on the road I get at home (which is almost everything dish has) until I get a few hundred miles away from my local channels. I have DNS which supplys 4 network stations from Atlanta and San Francisco on a separate contract. None of the network channels, local or DNS are HD, at this time. If I'm in a large area like LA, I use the antenna and get Local stations in HD.

littleleno, not sure what you mean by homebase. We FT and never stay anywhere for more than two weeks, so we physically have no home base. Of course, we have a permanent address for billing, which is the address we were assigned by our mail forwarding service (based in TX.)
Yes that does help. My husband and I are going to start traveling for work. Not sure we will have a homebase (permanent address) So i was unsure of how this would work. Will are still trying to figure out details such as bills and other things. Any advice would be loved!!
Well, if you're switching domiciles because you are selling house and truly heading out (homeless, but for your house on wheels!), you still need to establish residency somewhere. We chose to keep our CA residency, pay taxes there, kept driver's license and registration there, even though there are better/cheaper alternatives. But we knew we still wanted that CA tie. We signed up with a mail forwarding service from TX, who gave us an actual address, not just a PO box, where all our snail mail goes. Then, every two weeks or so, we have them forward it to us when & where we tell them to.
But for DirecTV, just a billing address works, as they know we move all the time in an RV. We pay the bill online, but they would send your bill to that billing address if you chose.
Once you get to that point, you'll see a ton of options regarding east/west coast feeds, distant networks/local networks, etc. All of these have been covered ad nauseum here, so you'll have info when you begin your research.
Good luck. This is the best forum for getting answers to your questions. Of course, it frequently brings up questions you never even considered, but hey...
Thanks for the advice. There are so many things to consider. We just sold our house, so right now we are literally homeless while we search for a 5th wheel! But I think we will still keep our residency in OR...just need an address i guess. Thanks again.
