I am battling with a couple of leaks on my motorhome, a 2004 Windsport 36A.
The first is in the cab area. During heavy, and usually directional rains, water leaks from the driver or passenger fans, and sometimes leaks from the joint where the ceiling meets the rubber window seals. Does not leak from the window itself. It is never from both sides of the RV at the same time, leading me to believe the water is pooling up in there somewhere and leaking on whatever side is lowest. I have been on the roof and cannot find a entry point. Only thing I can think of is the A/C unit. Maybe water is being forced in during heavy/directional rain and then pooling in the from ceiling area. Anyone ever had this issue?
Second leak is the driver/passenger windows. On our model there is a plastic piece that goes in the groove and when the window is shut the plastic piece puts pressure on the window to tighten it against the rubber seal. But it just doesn't provide enough pressure and it is only about 3-4" long so it doesn't creat pressure on the whole window bottom, just a couple inches. Sheeting rain overwhelms the seal and I get a small river running down the window tracks and overflowing at the low point at the front window corner. I have heard about "weep holes" but I do not see any on my model. Not really sure where to look, but there are no visibile draining holes in any of the front window tracks. I think what I need is just something to put more pressure against the window and create a tighter seal with the rubber. Anyone else dealt with this problem?
First thing to check for your roof leaks in those areas is the caulking around the clearance/running lights across the top of the coach. They are a common source of leaks into the upper windshield area. For your window leaks check out this thread.
water leaks can be troublesome at times. They will travel from way away from the actual leak so you can't rule out something half way down the coach. everytime you apply the brakes for instance the water will run forward and then go away once you are moving forward again. It's a matter of inspecting every possible entry point and sealing even those that look ok. Take your time. put the ball game on the radio and inspect, inspect. You will find it, good luck..
Thank you all. I also conferred with an RV dealer service rep who lives in our park and he is also of the mind that is the running lights, especially because they are the recessed type.
I also had him look at the window track for ideas and he's going to look for some possible solutions. I'm still interested to know if anyone else has dealt with a similar problem on the driver/passenger sliding windows.
Another spot to check is where the front cap, side wall and roof meet. Our Hurricane had a very similar leak, and it turned out to be a bad seal in the caulk at that point. On ours, the awning channel direct water to that spot, and with heavy rain, caused a small leak. Easily fixed with a little caulking.
