I see some campgrounds are very specific about what they ban. Others use wording like "aggressive dogs". Can anybody tell me what that means? If a CG bans breed XYZ and you brought XYZ, do they ask for papers or could you say it was breed ABC and they'd be fine. Do they even come out and look at your pets when you check in? If the license showed it was a specific breed, is that enough proof to them believe it is not? Might they still say "it looks like an XYZ which is not allowed, go home"? I just don't want to run into any issues. The vaugeness of it all worries me. I know most state CG's have no problems and that it is more of a private CG issue.

Hi. The best thing to do would be to call to have the CG specify particular breed. We have been to quite a few CG's and some will mention pit bull, German shepherd, rottweiler etc. Some have mentioned that they word it the way you stated for any breed, if would become aggressive, would fit that category. So if my 12 pound wiener dog had a bad hair day and someone complained, they could boot me out.
Don't like the view?? Then change it and Go Camping
Might be that they use the words Aggressive Dogs because then they would have the right to ask someone to leave if their pet showed aggressive behavior while there and the owner of the dog would have no recourse. Just my thought.

Soooo basically you're saying don't camp at any of those places that can't put it in words. My concern is booking a visit then being rejected at the gate. Sure the lady on the phone might say sure your dog is fine, but at checkin the guy at the office doesn't like my dog and says "no".

You hit it right on the head what IS wrong with this whole issue!
Unless they have licensed 'experts' at every venue that posts these rules/bans they don't mean squat.
I ask for the CG policy before making reservations. All I want to hear is if they accept pets or not. Anything said after that regarding the type of dog....I say thank you and find another CG.
And I don't even have a dog that is remotely considered in any of this rhetoric.
There's tons of CG's out there and there is no need to stay at and/or give our money to a CG with 4 paragraphs of rules of what 'type' of dog they 'think' is allowed. If we 'all' quit frequenting these CG's eventually they will get it, and hopefully our fellow campers that do have dogs that are being blackballed will be able to camp freely.
There's even a city that is trying to ban all dogs that have black and rust markings.....hoping that would cover all the dobie/rot breeds and mixtures of them and 'their' inability to identify them.
On the lighter side of how they can tell if your dog is aggressive at 'check in'?....maybe they ask you to roll your window down and they stick their hand in and if they don't get bit...you get to camp there.

No, I'm not saying don't camp there. We stayed one time at a private resort type place and in their ad it said no more than 2 pets per site. I let them know ahead of time we had 3, but they were all very small. They said no problem, they just put that in their ad so if someone shows up with 5-6 Rotts they would have the right to not let them in. My chi's can be aggressive if given the right conditions, so does that mean I can't go anywhere? They weigh under 4#'s each.
I don't own a dog (due to allergies in the family, otherwise I would have a big friendly mutt), but while booking my most recent trip I noticed the same term: Aggressive Dogs.
Most gave a clear definition of Pit Bull, Rot, Dobermann and German Shepard.
What breed to you own? Is it a breed that could be called "aggressive" in the general sense, even if yours is very gentle?
Regardless, your best bet is to tell them the breed and ask them directly.
Trying to sneak one past the goalie by docturing tags is likely to cause everyone grief.
Besides, wouldn't your rabies papers list the breed?

Do you not know what aggressive means? will bark, snap, jump on, growl or bite at other people or dogs, that's what they mean.

I think is a good idea to have that rule. If you were having a party at your house, would you allow someone to bring there pit bull to your house if you had kids? You don't know what that dog will do. Are you willing to jeopardize your child's safety just to let your guest do what they want? There are very few "aggressive" dogs if you ask the owners. The CG owners don't want to risk the liability by having somebody bring in their dog that chews up one of the campers' kids. Think in someone else's shoes one time.

I sure do know what aggressive means. And according to a study published in the May 2008 Applied Animal Behaviour Science, conducted by University of Pennsylvania which showed that the Dachshund was the most aggressive dog followed by the Chihuahua. I would bet my camper that none of the CG's are going to bat an eyelash when somebody checks in with one so that is why I was asking. There is factual proof that the Wiener dog is aggressive but they're going to ban dogs with "rust colorings"? I understand these places have safety to worry about. I have 3 dogs. All are great. We were told that one of our dogs should enroll in the therapy dog program. She has already been used to help with aggressive untrained dogs rehab due to her patience and tolerance. With words like "aggressive" in there though. I could be told to leave all 3 home.
