I'm in the process of replacing the weather stripping rubber around my slide. When I remove the old rubber the adhesive tape stays on the frame and doesn't come off with the rubber. I have a couple of products, Goof-Off, lighter fluid, acetone, etc., that removes the adhesive, but I can't get the actual plastic tape off to get to the adhesive. Any ideas?

Hi,
I use WD 40 to get off any kind of sticky anything! It always works for me. Then I clean off the area really well before I apply anything new.
Just an idea, hope it helps.

3-M eraser wheel. Find them at local auto/paint/body shop. Around 14.00...best, safeset, and easiest way to remove adhesive....period.

Perhaps the slightest of slices in the tape with lighter fluid then applied will allow the glue underneath to separate so the tape will pull off in sections. Good luck, I know many products work but I have used lighter fluid for so long on so many different items that I haven't gone to anything else.

3M also has an adhesive remover. Automotive paint stores have it. I removed the vinyl stripes on our boat a few years ago. I tried several other removers and the 3M worked the best. It seems to soften the vinyl and disolve the glue.

I've done the same job with lousy results with my old standby 3M Adhesive Remover that usually cuts right through the goo. But like you said, the tape shields the remover from doing its job. I've heard great results from the 3M erasure wheel that the guys above have suggested, so that's what I would try.
