Hi all. Be in Moab area about the 21st Aug for 8 days. I'm considering either Riverside Oasis CG or Archview CG's for full hookups. WIFI ? Which do U suggest/why? With respect to fuel prices, do U think we'll need to make Reservations or is everyone staying home this year? Be doin lots of exploring on scooter so we don't want to be 'In Town' nor constantly driving thru town. Thanks

Of the two you mention, Riverside Oasis would by my choice. Archview is a ways out of town with not much around it. I also like Moab Valley and Portal. These last two and Riverside will allow you to "scoot" down Hwy 128 which follows the Colorado River and is an interesting drive.
suggest you go to http://www.rvparkreviews.com/regions/Utah/Moab.htm and check out the reviews.

When touring with Adventure Caravans a couple of years ago we stayed at Moab Valley RV Park. It's a couple of miles out of town but close to other stuff that you came to see.
If you are going to Arches you might like to read Edward Abbey's book, `Desert Solitaire'. In the 60's Abbey took a job as a seasonal park ranger in Arches. A review of the book by the NY Times states `The author is a rebel and an eloquent loner. His is a passionately felt, deeply poetic book...set down in a close-knit style of power and beauty.'
Abbey talks about Balance Rock which hasn't changed much since then but the park certainly has; many more tourists than when Abbey was there and he would not like it so.

Just returned from a month long trip out west and stayed in Moab for a week. We stayed at Moab Valley RV Resort. If I were you I would choose Riverside Oasis. It looked much shadier. It was over 100 degrees the entire time we were there so shade is important! Also, the pool at Moab Valley was always filled with lots of teenagers with tubes and balls and stuff. My kids didn't even get a chance to go in. We were out most of the time exploring the area anyway. Good luck on your trip.

Been there several times - we have stayed at a couple. We prefer Moab Valley and have used it the last few times. DO NOT stay at Spanish Trail!

Take Riverside Oasis. I was at Portal's a couple weeks ago while it has lots of room there is no shade. At least Riverside has some good size trees. Talked to someone who was staying at Archview while we were touring the area and they said there was no room there. With their slide out they couldnt put out the awning without touching the next camper. I doubt you need reservations that time of year as the temp will be over 100. None of the parks we say were anywhere near full.

Moab is one of our favorite places. The bighorn sheep are usually near the entrance to Arches National Park. The Fiery Furnace Ranger Hike is definitely worth it. And so is the petroglyph self-tour - you can pick up the brochure at the NPS Visitor Center or in town sometimes.
Be sure to do your exploring early and late in the day. Mid day is perfect for napping and relaxing. We were there from 3/6/08 - 3/11/08. You are more than welcome to look at our website under the Adventures Archive for photos & fun.
You are gonna have a blast!

Anyone have thought concerning need for reservation? I'm thinking most places won't be too busy due to gas prices so reserves won't be needed?
