We have a 8.5 x 20 Cargo trailer that we haul our ATVs in and camp in during the summer.

During our outing last week at the Oregon coast it got uncomfortably cool at night while sleeping so I am looking for an inexpensive solution as it will be used infrequently.

I was looking at this. It is certified for indoor and RV use. I purchased the unit along with a battery powered carbon monoxide detector ( I may actually install 2 CO2 detectors as a fail safe) They are relatively inexpensive. After I got it home I noticed a disclaimer on the box " do not use while sleeping". The website does not mention this but it is on the box.

My research also turned up these but they are more expensive and would require a installation of a 20# tank on the tongue and plumbing inside the trailer.

The thing I don't get is RV sites have them advertised on the same page with the rest of the heaters.

I was in the same situation a few years ago with a 24' trailer and I found a Suburban RV furnace and mounted it at the front of the trailer and it worked great.

I use to duck hunt out of an old TT that had no heater. I just turned on the stove (propane) and cracked a window for ventilation and never had a problem. I think you would be fine as long as you vented the room somewhat...Mark

Ya' get what you pay for.....heating something like 800cu.ft. of uninsulated T isn't a small chore---and Mr. Heater will eat up your O2.....odds are you won't take that "big sleep," but I'd be careful, and provide some ventilation....
(Heaters heat---they all SHOULD be on the same page---shouldn't they?!)

First off have you thought about insulating your cargo trailer, including the roof? If you haven't done it yet, it will help during heat and cool. Second, how about an electric heater and small generator. I use an electric heater even though I have forced air gas, it saves the gas, it's safe, and when I'm hooked up at a park I'm using their electricity

reno82: Please don`t suggest anyone running a generator at night for
the electric heater.
insulation in the trailer--very good.

We have thought about insulating the trailer. We did not know if that would be enough. Obviously it would help. Temp got down to about 45-50 deg the night we were uncomfortable.

I do have a small Honda generator. Running it all night would make me nervous with the emissions but each person has their own level of comfort. Besides, where we camp quiet rules are enforced @ 10pm generators included.

We also heated an old hunt TT with the propane oven and windows cracked open. We did use cO2 detectors, one over each bed. Did it for years.

I would have two stand alone battery powered CO2 detectors just like you plan.
Night, night.

I came up with an R22(certified) doing my CT to TH conversion(profile).....1 1/2" spray foam(commercial outfit), another 1 1/2" foil-face foam board, and final wall board....4" spray foam under the floor, except just an inch below my tanks......total investment was under $200 with my labor shaving the spray foam....at freezing, my 25K btu Suburban will run about 1 hour total in 8 hours---at zero, it runs about 2 hours with refectix on the windows......in summer(now 85), I run the A/C for 10 minutes or so before I crash to knock the RH down a bit......you'd be amazed what that closed-cell foam does compared to glass......even a 1 1/2" foil-face foam would do you wonders---particularly a layer under the floor.....and it's a piece of cake to install it----I didn't even glue mine----cut it real tight and high quality taped the seams.....I did cover the underside with PVC screwed to the frame......
