It is sure a fact that there are many different ways to be a fulltimer. We have now been full-time in our motorhome for eight years and love it. We spend one to three months as a resident volunteer in locations of interest to us. By doing so, we do not pay for an RV site most of the time and we also save on fuel costs, yet we see the country in ways that most can never experience. If you are interested, I invite you to visit the website in my signature.
What made me ask the original question was that when we drive through many parks we see fifth wheel's with no truck, usually a small car. Is this because they have settled down and sold the truck, or is it because they never intended to travel? Perhaps they merely wanted to live in a RV and not have the responsibility of owning a bricks and mortar home. I would like to believe that we would spend part of the spring or fall here in BC, travel around Canada through the summer and then head south for the winter. Again staying no longer than a month at any given park. This is only the opinion of my wife and I, but we are both agreed on this. She doesn't call me Wanderlust for nothing.
Cheers
But it's all a matter of preference and driving style. I like having room in the RV and a large basement. Since we stay at least 3 mos anywhere, the 5er makes more sense to us. It's easy to pack up, secure everything and move the 5er to our next location. We left OH on Fri, stopped one night in KY and now in AL for a few months.

We sold our California home in Dec. and closed in Feb. We've only been full timing now for 5 months. Our new home is a 5th wheel.
So far we've traveled as far as Custer, South Dakota. We just arrived here on Monday. The campground we are staying in, is a combination horse ranch and campground. We love it here so much we plan on staying a month.
We've never stayed anywhere less than one week since we left California. We average 2 weeks in most places.
We decided when we started this life style we were not going to spend it in a (hurry and see) vacations mode.
On a travel day we don't drive more than 200 miles. In the last month we drove from Colorado Springs to Golden Colorado. It took us about 1 1/2 hours. A few days ago we left Spearfish S.D where we stayed for a couple of weeks and drove a whole 70 some miles to Custer. We only did that so that we didn't get caught up in the whole Sturgis crowd.
Oh, did I mention, we don't like traffic and crowds????
Anyway, we just move along slowly and are really enjoying this new life style. Next year we may look for a work camping position during the summer. The best part is we don't know where we will be next month and we love it.

We're paid up here till Sept. 1 (stationary) but have decided to hit the road for a while. We love the West and it's been years since we've been there, so since San Antoni is a great jumping off point, we'll be heading that way for 6 to 8 wks., depending on the weather and then back here stationary thru the winter. It will be our first run on the road since we just moved from Arkansas to this spot in May. Now all I've got to do is plan the trip and figure out WHERE we want to go, which are the best roads and lighten this load on the 5'er a bit. Stationary means you start collecting STUFF again....try to break that mold! See ya down the road!

Lady, if you are going to stay in SA, I recommend you look at
Happy Trails On Gembler Road
1031 Gembler Road, San Antonio, TX 78219
Right off the freeway, close to all downtown and the Alamo, River Walk and the Spanish churchs. Local to the zoo etc.
They have a nice place and run by a great old geezer. Monthly rates are verrry reasonalble and pet and child friendly. Mostly fulltimers there and they are a great bunch of people. Check it out, doesnt cost anything to find out if you might like it. The city bus picks u up at the curb and takes you whereever you really want to go.

Thanks, but we're at a cg with our best friends who are mgrs. here. We like this one and will return here. If we didn't have friends here, we'd ck. it out.
We still work from the road so we have places we have to be - but they're months apart so we fill in the gaps by staying wherever we end up. Generally we'll book a week, see how we like the place and then stay longer if we want. Winter we do in Fl, at least this year, and get the office ready for the next years absence

My 1 ton diesel pickup listed below gets within one MPG of what your toad does!! When towing our fiver we get 12-14 MPG. Does your Class A do that well when towing your dingy?
