They probably expanded too quickly, plus in a downturn economy, one of the first things to go, will be spending on pricey non-necessities that can be easily replaced more inexpensively.

At least Timmy's makes an acceptable cup of coffee.. Not great. but not burnt to a crisp either.
I have had the pleasure of a great cup-o-joe a couple of times.. one was a little hole-in-the-wall place in Detroit's Greektown, Food was nothing to brag about but great coffee
The other was in Palmdale Ca, a Mexican place

Starbucks basically over-saturated the North American market with their stores. They were self-cannibalizing themselves with opening stores right across from one another. But I guess that's to keep their competitors from opening at that location. They have also been cases where they would buy properties where they think a competitor would open a coffee shop and leave it vacant.
I think Starbucks has reached close to their peak in NA since there isn't much room for growth here. Money into the overseas would yield better growth.
Personally, I've never really liked Starbucks coffee or any of their drinks.

Let's not be biased Dick.
If people in Las Vegas Wynn's pay $8 for (paper) cup of coffee, that means it is not overpriced.
Than in the other wing of that hotel -the Ferrari dealer is not pushing anything past the door.

At least Timmy's makes an acceptable cup of coffee.. Not great. but not burnt to a crisp either. My wife finds their coffee acceptable, I don't. I find the local Co-op gas station brews a better cup of cappuccino than anything Timmy's turns out.

The last containers of Maxwell House I popped open don't have the Strong Aroma that they used to have. They have the audience now so why not cheapen it up a little and cut production cost, right?
I also read sometime back that Mac D's was going to start serving the fancy plop, sprinkle and dollop coffee's.
Can you imagine a line of quivering, shaking people lined up in front of a closed Starbucks.LOL

They have forced so many GOOD coffee shops out of business that seeing them close stores makes me very happy..
There is hope for those of us who like good coffee.. YIPPIE
(Most other companies I'd be sad to see them close but since what Charbucks does to a coffee bean should be a crime.. I'm happy to see 'em "Downsizing")
I have complained to several business that are "Proud to serve Starbucks" that they have NOTHING to be proud of in serving the world's worst coffee.
Ditto, worst cup of coffee I ever drank. Could have bought a gallon of Folgers (way better taste) and brewed my own for the cost of a cup.
As for stores having "Proud to serve..." same way with KrispyKreme donuts. Worst donut in the country, but the yuppies somehow got everyone wanting them. I'll take a DayLight Donut over a KrispyKreme any day of the week.

Not to change the subject but I agree, Daylight Donuts are better than KrispyKreme and they are our hometown company!
