Have just purchased an 2003 Alpenlite Aspen 28RK. Wondering if anyone with a similar TT has attached a hitch on it to pull a small 14' boat (1000# max) Realize that I have to check with states before entering them since I would be about 65' total rig length.

The frames on some trailers, especially "Lite" models, are not built to handle the stress of towing loads, only to carry the trailer and cargo up to the rated capacity. (After all, If a trailer is designated as "Lite", the extra weight removed, compared to a "non-Lite" model, has to come from somewhere, and the frame and floor are common places to save weight). I know that mine is not designed for this.

I would check with Aspenlite before adding a hitch to your trailer. Warped frames can cause all sorts of problems on a travel trailer, from abnormal tire wear to loose cabinets to gaping cracks in the trailer body. I would contact the manufacturer before attaching a trailer hitch to any trailer which is advertised to be a "Lite" trailer. The cost of repairing a warped frame can "total" a travel trailer.

My hubby bolted on the drag wheels rather than have them welded on due to the lack of clearance and his concern about that much heat that close to the non-metal part of the Alpenlite 23RL we have.

We tried to put a plastic box (with sewer hoses, water hoses, etc.) on the bike rack and it bounced so much that it dragged on the "ins" and "outs" of gas stations, etc. Thus the reason for the drag wheels. So I would be cautious of adding a hutch.

We now carry only the patio rug and ladder on the closed bike rack.

Just our experience. You might so a Search on "Alpenlite" on the Travel Trailer forums only.

It is legal to tow a 3rd vehicle in some states behind a 5th wheel, but not behind a travel trailer. The short answer is that you can't do it.
