I test drove a Monaco Cayman today, my first ride in a DP. I liked the quietness of the engine, but was surprised by the ride being stiffer and bumpier than I expected. The salesman said it would be smoother loaded????? Is this true DP owners?

No It has nothing to with been a DP
With air bags you have a ride hieght adjustment if it's not set right it will be a stiffer ride. If there is no air in the air bags it will be a stiffer and bumper ride. Go drive the same MH and make sure the air bags have air in them. with a motorhome with air bags when you park it at a campground you dump the air bags to level it. If you dont flip the switch to fill the air bags backup when you leave you will have a stiffer and bumper ride. I have driven a dump truck for many years with air bags on it and when I dump it you have to dump the air in the air bags and if you dont fill the air bags backup it is a ride you do not want to take. I now have a MH that is a DP with air bags and the first time out when I left the campgrounds to come home I forgot to flip the switch to fill the air bags back up and it was a stiffer ride back home.

Sorry Leeroy for this question.

But is this normal on some units you have to "flip a switch to fill the air bags"?

We have no switch. They fill automatically.

My 05 Freightliner has a switch. You drain the air before you level.

This one has no switch to fill the bags, it does have one for dumping the air with engine off, but nothing inthe way of filling them... that's automatic.

I just hate to spend the $$$ and not be happy with the ride. Although, its no worse than my gasser, but do the other pros out weigh the cons?

If they won't let you adjust the tires, I would test drive a different chassis. My FL test drove ten times better than my gas coach. It is night and day better than the gas chassis. I wouldn't buy it if your not comfortable with the ride.
