Considering purchasing a used Jayco Seneca. A dealer who wants to sell me a gas Class A warns that you have to use it "all the time"' as it is a diesel. I'd be using it for several days each month for eight to nine of the twelve months. I could fire the generator on the other months. Is that enough?
On another post someone suggested filling water tanks to reduce sway. Makes sense. Anyone else doing this, and does it impact fuel economy significantly?
Aside from the lack of interior storage seems 35 GS seems like a great model. Thoughts?
Thanks in advance for all the straight steering you guys give to use tenderfeet.

After sitting for a year. The diesel will probably start if the batteries are OK without doing anything to the fuel. A gas engine may not have good gas to start if no stabilizer was added.

So what your hearing from the dealership is that they either have a lot of Class A gassers that are languishing on the lot, and/or the profit is greater on the gassers than the Diesels! I've driven a lot of Class A's, and a few Seneca's...and the Seneca is a "sports car" compared to a Class A motorhome. At least my wife will take over some driving chores on the Seneca, and won't budge on not driving the Class A!
You can use a good diesel fuel stabilizer if you wish..for nothing else other than it's ability to keep the fuel from algae formations. The engine needs to be ran occasionally, and once warmed up, cycle the turbocharger a bit to keep things lubricated and in top shape. Same with the generator.
After having owned 7 Jayco's so far, we are going to pull the trigger on a brand new Seneca in the near (I hope) future, too! I thought the Seneca's had a lot of storage space, under and inside! I was waiting for the new Embark, but at about 1/4 million dollars MSRP...whew! And the Melborne has NO storage space! Good luck!

Buy the one you want and dont allow the dealer to pursuade you into choosing one over the other. There are plenty of diesel motors that sit most of the time and are not harmed at all.

That description sounds close enough to "all the time" for me!

Get the 35GS...you will love it. I was injured and mine had to sit for four months last year before I could get well enough to start it and /or run the genny. It was fine. In the last 4 months since then, the DW and I have put about 10,000 more miles on it and you would have never known it had sat at all.
Your dealer is trying to get you to buy what he wants to sell you...not what you want to buy.

I have a 2006 Diesel Seneca with still low mileage due to staying in RV parks most of the the time and not driving alot. I have had no major problems with it and am very pleased. I did have a problem with my Onan generator. It would start and run but would immediately shut down under load and have trouble codes. My authorized Onan mechanic replaced a control board and I have had no more problems. Onan paid for the repairs under warranty. Mechanic did say to start and run the Onan about once a month under load. As far as the Duramax diesel, it runs great and has decent mileage. The storage is adequate although hard to get to with the slides out. I have most of the recalls done through a local authorized Jayco dealer that did not sell me the Seneca but they have always treated me like I bought it there. In my opinion, I have purchased a good motorhome within my budget. There are plenty of other Super C manufacturers that are more expensive but I feel I got my moneys worth. Everyone has different experiences that have owned RV,s but after owning a bumper pull, fifth wheel and now a motorhome, I have enjoyed it the most with my Jeep Liberty on the back.

I have an 08 Seneca GS 35G and may be selling. It is loaded right down to the upscale paint and 4K upgrades on the suspension which drives like a car and no more tail wagging. Has 5K milage and gets 10mpg. It is diesel. Let me know if you are interested and I will make a decision within 30 days. Dane

That's what he said. But at the time of his post he did not know why it quit running.
