We've camped for several days with several families at a time. We've done meal planning several different ways. It's much easier if one family fixes one big meal. We took turns cooking breakfast, lunch and dinner. However, I think the best way is to take turns fixing dinner and let everyone eat on their own for breakfast and lunch.

If you do decide to share all meals, figure out the total number of meals needed. Three meals for five days is 15 meals. Let's say you had 5 families, each family would be responsible for making 3 meals each. One full day would be one way to divide it up.

I find Breakfast is real hard. Everyone seems to get up in the morning at different times. We've had early risers and late risers and it's hard to accommodate everyone. A continental breakfast would work well in this situation.

We once camped with my husband's sister and she was assigned a breakfast. She didn't get up until 10 AM on her morning to cook. My DH and I got up at 7 AM. We just went a head and fixed ourselves something for breakfast. Next time we camp with the DH's sister, we won't let her fix breakfast

Just some things to consider.

Thanks for all the tips. I think it will work best to do breakfast and lunch on our own and then get together for dinner. I think it is also a good idea for each family to provide their own meat and a side.

This is how I organize at least one night of our potlucks at a RV.net rally. It works well, too well LOL........ we always have too much food, but then, no one goes away hungry either

With one group, there is a menu and each family prepares part of the menu. However, nobody ever knows the menu until the day of so it is a horrible arrangement. It is very stressful. And some people aren't very good cooks.

With another group, we all prepare our own meals but eat together. No stress.

I think it would be ideal for each family to prepare their own meat and then potluck the side dishes. That seems the easiest to me but for our group that prepares all their own meals, just getting everyone camping at the same time is enough of a feat! LOL!

We also camp with friends (4 other couples, all the children of different and varied ages from newborns to young adults). We all fix our own breakfasts and lunches. If we happen to be with others at lunch and/or breakfast times, we share. Usually, we are doing our own things during the day. In the evening, each family group will take a night for dinners - their choice of menu and it can even be KFC or pizza and salad, if they want. If someone doesn't like the menu, they can eat a sandwich (you know, some people are picky eaters). It's according to how long we stay, but usually the last night for a long weekend or a middle, then last night is for leftovers. We have had some really strange combinations of food, but we have sure had a good time.

We divide up meals. Breakfast and dinner only. I love it - we camp with one other couple quite a bit for weekends, so each couple only has to do one breakfast and one dinner. Makes it MUCH more relaxing. When we camp with more people we do the same thing. One or two meals, and you're done! it takes a bit more planning, but it's worth it. And it makes the trip more fun, because the food ends up being sort-of a competition. We have a good time, and eat very well! No Dogs and Burgers for us!
