O.K., so I installed (I think correctly) a Supco SPP6 hard start capacitor. NO HELP. Soooo, I'm thinking the problem is with the generator. I'll keep the forum updated.

What kind of generator? What is the rated startup current draw of the AC? If external generator, what type of hookup? How long is the cord? Is the cord rated for what you're attempting?

It's an Onan 2.8 Microlite that came built into my '96 Coach House.
It used to run the AC o.k. but no more. I read somewhere on this site that Dometic had some issues with the start capacitor, that's why I tried the SPP6 first.

A couple of things to think about:
As gensets age they can lose power, and as A/C's age they can increase their power needs.
We normally use a clamp on AC ammeter on shore power to see the actual draw of an A/C. And yes we have found units that would stall an 2.8 genset.
Have you tried tripping all the breakers except the A/C breaker? We've found some weird loads that folks didn't realize were drawing along with an A/C.

is the supco hard on anything ?

Im curious if it has any adverse results as I'd like to use one so my generator doesnt "chug" for those few moments during startup...

Assuming I hooked it up correctly (the directions were not very explicit), there doesn't seem to be any adverse effects. My gen did a little chug when just the fan started, now it doesn't, but it still dies when the compressor kicks in.

somthing to look at on your generator...

I use a china construction geny rated at 2500 max and 2200 constant... so I'd expect to get 20 amps out of it... every time my AC kicked on, it would trip the breaker... so took apart the panel to find that the breaker was only 10 amp ! hucked in a 20, adjusted the idle a touch higher on the geny and now it kicks on the AC with no problems... I just to be sure that I have enough electricity to handle the startup windings so I'd like to install the capacitor...
