Hi there from Australia,

Just had a call from a friend in Western Australia who is picking up his Keystone Cougar from a holding yard for the first time. It's a Sunday here in Oz and he can't ring anyone so he posted on my website.

Appears his legs are either dead or the battery is flat. I don't know at this stage. Is there a separate fuse that controls the legs and where would this be located ?

I've suggested that it has to be either a flat battery or a blown fuse. My Okanagan has old fashioned wind down legs so I don't have this problem.

Sorry to sound a bit vague but he is new to fivers and new to this particular van also.

Hi yes you have a 40 amp fuse for the landing gear we always carried spare ones because they blew often~ He will find the place for the fuse in a small box by the moter of the landing gear`Sandy

Make sure the battery is up to the task. If it is out of water or giving off low voltage, you will have a problem.

Hope you get working!

Check the fuse (in fuse holder of the wire going to the motor for the legs)
Check Battery voltage
check ground wire going to motor for corrosion.

I had same problem and found the fuse in the fuse holder had some corrosion on it.

Had the same issue with a brand new 5th wheel.

Start at the switch that controls the up/down fuction of the jacks. Follow a heavy wire back to the battery box. Somewhere along there you will find a device that holds the fuse. It's futile to tell you what it looks like because thay are all different! Mine looked like an old fashioned flint and fluid cigarette lighter painted black. Yours will no doubt be different. But it will be between the switch and the battery.

Hey all,

Thanks for all the replies, I've forwarded them to Trevor over in Western Australia and at this stage I haven't heard back so hopefully he's up & running.

It's a near new Cougar that he's bought and also his first fiver. More & more people are seeing the benefits of 5ers over here finally.
Still many more "travel trailers" here, about 90% T/Trailers to 10% fivers.

Thanks

Pat

This is usually the fuse in the in-line holder near the battery. Of course it could be more serious, but look at the fuse first ...

If you over extend or retract the landing gear, it blows the fuse. I have done it myself a few times, plus the only time I took the trailer in for warranty work, the same fuse was blown by the repair shop ...

I now have an ample supply of proper fuses for the landing gear on board ... :-)
