Nice easy little script to replace your "HOSTS" file with a list of sites that are problems. If the Parasite is on the list it is not loaded. It works excellent on Mozilla Firefox and sems to be OK on IE (although I don't use IE much to see if there have been any problems)
One site not on the list That I added that removes more junk is: 127.0.0.1 pagead2.googlesyndication.com
Please read all of the information before loading, People running Vista need to take a few extra steps.
There's no place like 127.0.0.1 Block unwanted adds!

With my Firefox3 I have "Noscript" running and it blocks the pop up ads plus illiminate the interspersed ads on this site also. Quite flexible.

I've had HOSTESS on this system longer than I've had this system (makes it easy)
Rarely use it though, easier to do it by hand

If you block pagead2.googlesyndication.com then you stop this web site from getting revenue from their Google Ads. As the site is free then maybe clicking on the ads is a good way of ensuring that it continues.
The rest of the stuff is fine.

I don't think that GOOGLE has to worry about any pop ups being blocked, and losing revenue.

I think this is a great thread! The link the OP made to the details had all the info needed to do the job, I'm sure. But in spite of that, I am not computer savy enough to do this on my own PC. I read the post 2x and am still overwhelmed. The article, although very straight forward, just assumes that I know some things that I really don't. I would REALLY like to block all the stuff mentioned but I guess I'm just not smart enough. Are there any more articles for those of us who just don't get it?

Use Firefox as your browser and install the AdBlock Plus extension. It's very easy to install. Then just right-click what you don't want to see and it's gone forever.
I can't bear to surf the net anymore w/o some type of ad blocker.

It isn't google that loses revenue! Websites like this forum make money off of ad click throughs and in the case of this forum - it allows them to stay free. Blocking the google ads or never clicking through keeps the revenue down.
Also, google ads are generally "low impact" not pop-ups and even context sensitive.
I too use NoScript, so much better than modifying your HOSTS file. Works on a Mac fine too which is good since I no longer use Windows...
