If its easier to test it first on 120V, I guess that's fine, Its just that the 120V element is a two stage or two elements, hence the three wires, one wire is common and one is low and the other is high, so you must have a two stage thermostat to cycle it back and forth between the two element's, or it alternates between one or both of them. There may be an electrical schematic stuck on the back showing how its wired. So hope this thermostat works, because Im sure its not cheap.
Its just that if you end up using it, using it on gas will work out best, you dont have 120V when your traveling and when your parked unless its with a full hookup. But with the gas working, it will work when you drive, and park, or all the time, plus they dont use much gas at all.
As Javaseuf suggested, it would be easy to temporarily hook up a gas tank and regulator to the back to test and work on it.
Its a little far to deliver for you, but I just gave one away for free, and it worked fine on gas and 120V AC. In fact I gave the whole RV away for free.

The element is $25. I'm getting power to the connections now so if the cooling unit is good, I'll be in business. I'm checking and repairing the gas system now too, so I'll have all three options if it works out. I do have a question about the LP though, how the heck does it stay lit while traveling at 60mph?

I’ve been searching for replacement heating elements for my Sibir refrigerator. I found one locally for $25 but when I went to pick it up, it was in the wrong package. The package was right on, but the element was WAY off. A quick look in the parts book and I was quoted $90 for the one I actually needed. I thought I’d better check around. Most places I called / e-mailed told me that they would only deal with Dometic or Norcold and that they would be glad to replace my entire unit. I bet they would! The few places that could order it wanted from $115 to $190! Finally I contacted an e-bay store http://stores.ebay.com/postsrv1960 who researched what I needed and although he could only supply the 12V element, he sold it to me for just under $38! Please visit his store and if nothing else, drop him a line and tell him lwbfl sent you.
