I want to know if I can run a Coleman Polar Cub 900 watt draw with a Xantrex 1750 inverter and 4 100 anp hour deep cycle batteries

No, you can not carry enought batteries to run any air conditioner for long enough to do much good. I would suggest a Yamaha 2400 or Honda 2000 watt generator. 900 watts will pull 75 amps from the batteries.

Maybe, for about 30 minutes at most.
Someone will "do the math" and give you a best case, which will be not much.

Sorry, but it just ain't gonna work. Even if it did, your battery life would be judged in minutes (a few minutes) instead of hours.

30 minutes sounds about right. What you NEED is a generator. That 30 minute run time will take you 4 hours to replace. Good luck / Skip

Yes, until the battery is discharged. You might get an hour out of the four. That is fine if needed at lunch while in transit. But you better have utility power of a generator at camp.

I doubt it. but it's close.. And if you succeed, perhaps for 2 to 2.5 hours max before the batteries go bad

A Prosine 2.0 or better yet 3.0 will run the A/C

But again .... You gonna want a lot more battery

Each 100 Amp hour battery, once you fudge the math, gives you about 500 watts to play with.. A bit less at high draw. So at 900 (round off to 1,000) you have 2 hours run time max in your batteries now (Assumming it does not cycle off) This is not good

How did I do the math 12 volts times 0.9 (Approx efficiency of an inverter) is 10.8, I rounded down to allow for loss in the wires

1,000 instead of 900 to factor in PART of the start surge. every time the compressor kicks in.

You simply do not have enough battery there.

I could very well be wrong about this, but I believe I have read that on some mid to high line coaches, those that have two 3000+ watt inverters, at least one air is wired to to run as such. Now its a given that on such a coach there is a ample supply of Batteries and a very large alternator....I suppose the reason for such a setup is precisely so you dont have to run the Gen set while running down the road. So, in other words, its possible with the right setup!

R U saying the alternator will KEEP the batteries recharged as fast as the roof AC will discharge em?

Yes, you can, for a while. The people who think it is impossible to run A/C from and inverter and batteries are wrong, there are systems designed to do this and they work quite well. The limitations are in the size of the battery pack.

900 watts on the 120V will draw about 90 amps from your batteries on the 12V side. If you are talking about four 100 AH 12V batteries, from a full charge you have about 2 to 2 1/2 hours running the AC, getting down to 1/2 charge, which is about as far as you should go, and about as far as the inverter will go before shutting down for low input voltage.
