After reading the Hughes Autoformer http://www.autoformers.com/ site, besides protecting the tt at a campground, would it help a generator such as a Honda eu2000 that struggles from time to time with the ac on, and would adding a surge protector such as a Progressive Industries be a benefit as well? Seems like the autoformer will take a surge but then you have to send it in for service.
No, it won't help the the inverter generators. By the time the load drags the voltage down, the generator capacity has been exceeded, and there's no magic that can correct that. Most of them shut down an excessive load anyway. And I wouldn't wast the time, money and weight on a surger protector either. The inverter generators already regulate the output voltage beautifully. That's the whole point of them.
The Honda will not operate a low voltage, it will shut off. Keep the econo throttle off for best results. No autoformer or surge protector needed as they do not create power.
If you want to spend some money you can get an inverter that will combine power with the generator for the start surge and recharge the battery once the compressor is running and operating from the Honda 2000.
