I have been a dish user for years(5) I just got my first hdtv and circuit city gave me 100.00 to get direct tv for the hd content(I could cancel if I want) I have a dual lnb which I had very Little problem hitting both birds (110 and 119). But it looks like direct is giving me 2 dishes 1 with 5 lnb (for hd) and a 3 for the other room with out hd. The same reciver I plan on taking with me (non hd). The question is I will take with me the NON HD reciver. Will I need a 3 lnb dish? Can I use my old dishnet work dish and what birds will I need to hit for NO HD content and what bird will I need for locals? I only leave the viewing area once or twice a year. I also have read that Direct birds are easier to hit than dish, is that true. Should I stay with dish or jump to direct?
Thank you!

we went from dish to direct and like it as well or better than dish, alot better to aim since thier is only one bird to lock on with all the channels

I switched to Direct, and it is a lot easier to aim the dish.

But my locals are on 119, and the regular channel are on 101, so I use the 2 LNB oval dish, as we camp a lot in our local channel area.
I believe you can use the Dish network dish if your regular and locals are all on the 101 sat. But it won't get 101 and 119 at the same time, because the LNB is aimed to get 110 and 119.

Well... First in your RV you will not likely get local network stations (Channel numbers below 70)as you move out of your spot light, er, beam (Local stations are Spot Beamed, like a spot light, In fact a spot light IS a spot beam)

Most all the "Cable" type non HD programming is on sat 101, so any dish will work, single, double, triple of 5-head

Also if you can get them to authorize DNS for the one non-hd receiver... That's on 101 too (Need to file an RV-Waiver form, they are not SUPPOSED to authorize DNS for a house account... but then again finding people who know how to deal with RV's at that company can require the industrial size bottle of asprin)

I went from Direct to Dish and wouldn't go back. I have one 3LNB dish. They have much better boxes.

IT's nice to need only one box for the whole RV. Much less wiring with Dish vs direct.

I like that Dish's remotes are RF vs Direct's IR remotes.

Don't have a problem hitting Dish's satellites. I take my HD with me.

Thanks for all the replies, I will get dns Does anyone know were I can get the waiver form so I send it up? I talked to a csr. I was told to wait to after the install. ( I think she just did not deal with it, had the same problem on dish, but found the waiver on their website, thanks for all the replies and I have read that the boxes on direct were not as good, but improving :-). I did not have a problem with dish except the did not treat old customers very good when it came to upgrades, they wanted me to pay for all new receivers and Direct gave me everything including a hd dvr and more progaming less money and nfl ticket. Most all of my reading says Direct is better. We will see, thanks!

That's funny. That's how I ended up with Dish. Went to upgrade to HD with Direct and they wanted oodles of money. Dish gave me everything for free.

I think the way the companies operate we'll have to jump back and forth to get the free upgrades.

I suspect you're right on that, we're leaving Dish because not only could I not go through and contract for new equipment in a bundle, I was looking at weeks without service.

After 2 yrs w/ Dish, all I wanted was to trade the huge 625 DVR for 2 little bitty receivers, so I could permantly RV one of them, and it was 300 bucks, take it or leave it !! and they wouldn't let me talk to anyone else,........till AFTER I cancelled and connected to Direct ! Then all their calls started coming in,...treating me like gold,.....all of a sudden, everything was free !

I know I know, story of our lives. But really, I got so tired of that "CHECK SWITCH" logal, all because I was running a single LNB in the RV,...I guess. It always made me beg for a picture, and that was after fighting to get locked on to the sat,.. w/ their very slow reacting signal meter.
