I towed my trailer with my new to me 06 Silverado. It is overkill for the size trailer I have, but I wanted it and sought advice (on price) from the forum .
I went to the favorite campground 100 miles from home. The drive is curvy mountain road with several steep grades. I used to go 25mph max up them towing with my 91 GMC. This truck was up to 55mph and could have done more (but I couldn't)... too curvy.
On the way down, don't laugh, but the truck seemed to "know" what we needed to do and put itself in the right gear on the 3 mile 6.5% grade. I used to ride the brakes and now I don't need to.
I used to pay $170 for gas in the GMC for this trip and this one took $90.00. Gee, I saved $80.00 and only had to spend $23,000 to do it.
Anyway, thanks to everyone for the encouragement.

Most importantly....you've got a great setup in terms of safety. It's much better to have too much truck than not enough, and the truck will hold up much better over the long haul.

Oh boy, have you ever set yourself up to spend more bucks. Soon you will be looking at that current trailer, telling yourself since you got that mighty pickup, you need a fitting rv to haul behind it. I see in your future a 32+ foot fifth wheel or travel trailer. Might as well contact the bank loan officer to get prepared. I am telling you the truth, my wife's wonderful cousin and her hubby are taking delivery of a big shiney fifth wheel in two weeks, having sold off the travel trailer. This weekend we will be installing the fiver hitch in the bed of his mighty Chevy Duramax. You have been warned.

Capt is so correct. I had 14K miles on the 98 dodge but didn't like the trannie because of just 4 gears and many times I said if it just had 5 gears it would be wonderful, then it happened, it was called the allison 5 sp in the 2001 chevs. My wife asked could it plug a bigger fifthwheel than the 32. Boy was I dumb with heck yes as the answer. The 2001 35 ft alpenlite was ordered before the truck arrived. OK because it has been great for us but believe the capt.
