I just wanted to introduce myself. For three years I lived and worked in Agriculture Sales for a Mexican business in Aguascalientes, AGS, Mexico, the cleanest and most progressive city in Mexico. Our clients were some of the largest dairy cooperatives in Mexico located in the states of Aguascalientes & Jalisco. It was during this time I dated and married my wife, who is from Guadalajara. Living and working in Mexico was a major highlight of my life so far.
Often we explored and camped in the nearby Sierra Fria, the only area in the state where it snowed in the winter. We would find beautiful, uncrowded areas of pine forest and camp on a stream or at a waterfall. The Sierra Fria is a protected natural area, so wildlife are abundant. There are numerous boondocking possibilities in this small state and also in Jalisco at Mazamitla and Tapalpa. We also enjoyed staying at Presa Jocoqui, a beautiful reservoir in northern AGS known for wakeboarding and fishing.
Anyway, I hope I can be a resource to the serious RV/Boondock folk who want to explore Mexico. There seems to be alot of misinformation in regards to travel in Mexico and Mexico in general. Mexico is not a place of campesinos in sombreros swilling tequila, burros, bandidos and adobe huts; it is also a first world nation with first class universities where my nieces and nephews study, developing infrastructure, unlimited cultural amenities, great cuisine, incredible history, traditional beautiful people, world class beaches and golf courses and even a new destination Ski/Golf resort.
If you can just get away from the border and into the beautiful interior, Mexico will win you over!

I have been going to Mexico for many years but to tell you the truth these last few weeks have got me thinking twice about going down this year. With 18 deaths NOT tied to the drug trade in the last few days, along with kidnappings of civilians I think I might just give the Mexican gov. a little time to get things under control.

Welcome to the Forum. I look forward to seeing your posts on Aguascalientes. I understand that this city could be the next Gringo stronghold in Mexico. There are however some serious new crime problems in the area. Of course they are related to the Drug cartels. I would love to see your comments as it relates to your city. I am wondering where you got your information on Mexico being a first world economy without the US$ sent home.
Thanks

Great post! The Sierra Fria looks like my kind of place. It would be great to hear about boondocking in Aguascalientes. Are there any rv parks in the state and how would you rate them if you have been to them?

Thank you for your information on Aguascalientes. I have a number of friends that have family who live there.
I do, however would like to know where you received your information that "it is a first world economy (without the billions being sent from the USA by Mexican nationals)"

Come on guys, just welcome the new person and beat um up next time!
WELCOME Guero!
Thanks for the links & info! One of our top priorities this winter is to stay in a location longer and explore more the outlying areas. AND you ID 2 of our top 4 areas. We will be looking for locations where we can pull the 5th wheel and camp that are or have not yet been ID.
Thanks again and post more good stuff about your unknown treasures.

Maybe I get too defensive about Mexico because of most peoples outdated stereotypes and misperceptions about Mexico; I am sure that anyone on this forum who has spent much time in Mexico can relate.
Yes, I would say Mexico is in a low level war with the great majority of casualties being drug related. However, Aguascalientes or Guadalajara are not Baghdad or Compton.
I was riding my brother in laws Polaris around the beautiful countryside outside Arandas, Jalisco a couple of weeks ago when I came upon an Military encampment. They were very polite and professional, yet I knew what they were doing there. The Military is being used in that area to stop the flow of drugs north to the USA.
As far as RV parks in Aguascalientes, I don't know of any as we tent camped in the forest whenever we went anywhere. Didn't have a casa rodante until the baby arrived. Funny how that works.

Guero, I would love to hear more about RVing near Aguascalientes. My husband and I have been discussing visiting some distant cousins of mine who live in your beautiful city, and also in Cuernavaca, sometime this winter.
People are telling us we are crazy to go down there with our 5th wheel (also an Arctic Fox!). I'd love to tell them they are the ones who are crazy. Any information you can pass along to us would be greatly appreciated!
