For Ford and the 6.0 look up Reuters Report of Ford Suing Navistar International to the tune of over 500 million in warranty claims.. The Ford is The Nicest of the Trucks I must say... Exceptional Paint, fit and finish, interiors, and the little gimmes on the Lariats like locking tailgates, lighted steering wheel controls, dual sun visors and on and on...But it is just that darned engine!! Maybe it is just that the Cummins is so much more of an engine for reliability, longevity, economy, and ease of maintenance....
I have both a f250 w/ a 7.3 and a f350 w/ 6.0 my 7.3 gets better milage but the 6.0 is a lot nicer to drive it is a lot more quite and has more pick up on the line, my 7.3 has a full Banks kit on it and the 6.0 is chiped and has cold air intake, bottom line the both have over 115,000 miles and I have not had any major problems. Do the services take care of them and work the heck out of them that is what they are for.

Well.. the DW is getting her wish. We purchased a clean 2006 Ford F350
FX4 Lariat 6.0l PSD CC LB about a month ago and just yesterday put our
earnest money down on our new 09 Cougar 318SAB. We will head to
Danville, VA on Thursday to pick it up. We are both excited. I have
spent many hours researching both the tow vehicle and the 5er and just
want to say thanks to all who have passed on their knowledge.

If Mama is insisting on a brand new trailer, I'd insist on a brand new truck...not that I'd get it. Consider the Dodge...get the engine the big boys use and has 30% fewer parts.

You mentioned Danville,VA. Did you purchase at RV outlet?
We have an 03 Ford with the 6.0. Has about 90,000 miles and we've only changed one sensor. I have a 2005 F350 with the same engine with about 57,000 miles and we've done nothing but service. One of the major keys to the 6.0 is service. We always use fuel additive to keep the injectors working, and then we keep the oil clean. We run synthetic, and change the filter every 3000 miles. The key to the 6.0 is good maintaince, and then go ahead and work them hard. We love ours.
