We have DirecTV with 3 receivers in our home. We leave for months at a time to perform volunteer work in our RV. While away, We take a receiver and use a tripod mounted dish that we keep in the RV. Since we travel outside of the spot beam for our local channels we, of course, lose them. Otherwise, everything works great and we may or may not get any local over the air TV. I am aware of DNS but am not interested. My question is can we call DirecTV and ask that the locals be changed to another area without telling them we are moving or changing our billing address? I have read about others doing this on this forum without problems. I posted a similar question on a satellite dish forum and was told that I would be required to "move" or change my billing address.
Does anyone have any experience with doing this? Who do you call to request the change?

From what I understood from the installer that did mine, you contact the customer service and inform them that you have relocated to whatever zipcode your at and they should take care of it from their end.
Hope this helps.

I have never heard of DirecTV changing your local channels to another area. I may be mistaken, but I don't believe they will do that. Basically, you'll lose your locals with DirecTV after you get 250-300 miles from home. It real depends on the area you're in. We experience this quite a bit. We just use our RV’s outside antennae to pull in the locals for news, weather, etc., and then switch back over to DirecTV for our regular satellite channels.

As a full time RV person, I have direcTV with local channels. It makes no differeence if I'm in Arizona, California, Minnesota or Colorado, I'll get the local channels for that area....here how it works. You actually have two addresses when you go into your Directv website. You have a billing address and a service address. They will always send the bill to your home address but the service (where you're at) can change. So I call the 1-800 number and tell them I want to change my service address from Mesa, Arizona to Ouray, Colorado...right away you now have local channels in Colorado which is Denver. Then when I move from Ouray to Palm Springs, I call again and tell them where I'm parked and want the service address changed. For this service, it's $5 a month extra....same way too, I was at a campground for 5 months that had free cable..I called and had the Directv service put on vacation mode....it stopped November 1 and I wanted it to start again April 15....no monthly fee for this, no payments again until April.

Another fellow here on the forum said the same thing; he calls and asks for his service address to be changed and they change it. That was a year or so ago.
Why not DNS? We have it and it works great. You also get some extra PBS channels and you get the NYC and LA football games

I have experience with changing my locals. 7 years of experience.
When I'm out of the Pittsburgh area I call DTV and have my SERVICE address changed to my new location. They want a physical address. If I have no physical address I just look up an address near me and give them that address. My BILLING address remains my home Pittsburgh address. Once when in Tampa I called and had the Jacksonville locals turned on so I could watch the Steelers. Jacksonville and Tampa's spot beam overlap.
I have NEVER paid a fee for changing my service address.

When I'm away I use the batwing for locals in the area I'm in. To get the home local news I use the Internet as it is broadcast live video on there website and if I missed the regular broadcast time you can still click on it to re-run it.
