You kind of have a problem because if your looking at MPG VS coach size, the heavier the coach is, the better mileage PER lbs you will get. I'm not sure the numbers will be meaningful. If you are just trying to get the best mileage, buy the lightest smallest coach you can stand. If you are going for efficiency, (best mpg per foot or lbs) buy the biggest heaviest coach you can find.

Clarification. I've heard exagerations like everyone else about vehicle mileage and thought it would helpful or atleast ineterseting to see what the actual mileage was for each type vehicle. For example, I have been told by many diesel owners that they get 10-14 MPG, even big rigs. Super cvlass "C" say they get up to 16 MPG. On the other hand, some have said they only get 5-7 mpg.

To the OP, great idea to share real info like this. I think the thread is heading off course though.

1992 Georgie Boy
Oshkosh Chassis
160Hp Cummins 5.9
16,000 lb rated - 15,800 on the scales for this trip
towing nothing
10.2 mpg relatively flat ground and old fuel
9.6 West Virginia mountains and new fuel
All at maximum speed we could go, but we top out at 65 - for now

However, engine is tached out at 2600 rpm at 65. Will be re-gearing (and other upgrades) this fall I'll keep you posted.

Need to point out something here.

I believe the OP was looking to amass a good lump of data here for people to compare mileage of different rigs, driving styles, towing or not towing, etc.

He didn't ask how to get better mileage. That issue has been beat to death here.

So please, post what your rig does. I for one don't want to know how to improve mileage. I travel with 5 people minimum. There is no more economical way to travel - period.

Just tell us what you have, and what it does.

There is a lot of variation in MPG in the exact same coach much less the different types.

We get an honest 8.3 over varied terrain but it can be as high as the mid 9's and as low as 6 or so depending on where we are, how fast we are going and which direction the wind is heading.

Bought a 2004 Holiday Rambler Imperial last summer on my way to the east coast. It has the Alladin system that is a computerized trip computer, mileage monitor system and engine monitoring system. It is a 40 ft coach with an ISL 400 Cummins. When I bought it, it had about 12K miles on it and the average MPG for those 12K miles was 7.7mpg. I drove it from Indiana to Connecticut and back to California, towing a Jeep GC and got the same 7.7 mpg. Speeds were in the 65mph range. On the trip to Connecticut this year, I set the cruise control at 55mph, and the only time I went faster than that was downhill. Since I was eastbound, the prevailing winds were at my back. At this steady 55, towing the same Jeep GC, I averaged 9.3mpg for the 3300 mile trip.

The Imperial is not a lightweight coach. It has a GVWR of 37,600 lbs.

MPG is affected by hills, driving style, and speed. I can only control the last two.

Just to keep things in proper perspective, fuel costs for most motorhomes are dwarfed by the depreciation.

I have just bought a Georgetown 350 TS. We travel with 3 adults and 2 kids. We are still new to this and settleing in on what we need and don't need to pack along so I think that we have some extra weight that could probably be dumped. I tow a Ford explorer on a car trailer(1,500 lbs. extra). I live the appalcahian moountains of Southwest Virginia so all of my driving so far has been in somewhat hilly terrain. I have consitently found my MPG to be around 6.8 When on the open road I will run at 65 to 70 mph in most cases. If my heavy foot will cooperate I will try and limit my next trip to 55 mph and see what happens. I have not travelled anywhere yet without the dinghy.

300 hp cummins, 35 ft, usually around 23000 weight, 1/2 time pulling saturn weighing 3300 lbs, past 4500 miles averaged 8.83 mpg. Usually cruise at 60-63 mph in economy mode.
