I see a lot of gas stations will no longer take either credit or debit cards. I use a debit card which to me is the same as cash.
I absolutely refuse to go into a convenience store to wait in line to pay for my fuel. It seemed every time I did in the past I would get behind some clown that was writing a check. And then you have to return into the store to get your change if you are filling up.
The next thing you know they will locate the cashiers at the rear of the store so you have walk further into the store so you can see other items they have.
I can remember when chain grocery stores located daily type items like milk and bread at the rear of the store so you had to go further into the store and go by other items you might need on the way to those items.

hmmm, haven't noticed that around here. And like you I probably wouldn't do business there either. Credit cards I can see somewhat but debit card refusal makes no sense to me. Unless they are just trying to get out of the percentage fees altogether.

On I75 I noticed that the stations are putting up 2 prices CASH and Card. If you use CASH the price is less by about 3%. Just for your information.

While a debit card may be the same as cash to you, it certainly is not to the merchant. If you pay for a candy bar with a debit card, it would be cheaper for him to give it to you and not process the card.

I have only seen one or two gas stations that will no longer accept credit or debit cards around here. But I'm not so sure that has to do with the price of gas so much as the cost of running those transactions.
As for milk, bread and stapel items in stores, i'm not sure where you shop but almost every store I go to has those items in the back of the store.

I guess you would rather pay the extra 3% added onto the transaction by the cc company than go in the store.
There has been a lot on the news lately about the stations losing money due to those fees.

Whenever I was standing in line inside, I ALWAYS ended behind a clown, who after waiting 10 minutes -approaching the counter started researching "Twinkie, or crackers?".
In CA only AMCO is not accepting CC at the pump. I am avoiding them completely.
Then my local theater accepts "cash only".

Ken,
Around here too. There's three small convenience/gas stations on the way to my health club, in a 3 mile distance. Two out of the three don't take credit cards, but their diesel fuel pricing is less than the one that does take credit cards. I noticed one of the two stations now doesn't sell diesel anymore. Since all my road vehicles take diesel-fuel, I generally fill-up @ Wal*Mart since they're always less. A WM is 4 miles away that sells diesel.

It would be a real shame if the US of A went back to using green cash.

I'd still use my card since it gives back 5%.
