I can't wait. We are heading to Lake George in less than 3 weeks. It is my favorite spot to camp. We have our 2 sites saved on Red Rock - now we have the fun task of going through all of our tent camping stuff. It's been a year since we tented and 2 years since our last LG trip. Dad has the boat ready or should I say working on getting the boat ready. Now we have to plan our meals, no trips to town this go round, not with gas prices so high.

We are doing things a bit differently than in the past. We have that issue when the kids are bored they tend to eat. So with 6 kids you can imagine how much food you can go through. So we decided to give give kid a couple bags of snacks, some trailmix, chips, etc. That is THEIR snack for the week, so if they decide to eat it all in one day, that's their problem and nothing more for the rest of the week. Plus it is all canned stuff or PB&J for lunches. Lunch meat doesn't keep that long plus it gets expensive to purchase lunchmeat for everyone. Dinner's will be all prepared ahead of time and frozen. Of course we'll have the usual dogs and burgers a few nights during the week, but other stuff will already be prepared so less cooking and easier cleanup.

Sorry this is long, but wanted to share our trip.

It's not the destination, but the journey that counts!

I have to chuckle, kinda makes me want to bring along some traps and a skinning knife in case the provisions run a little short. Have a great trip. Good luck and happy camping. Bill

Nah we aren't THAT bad, just sounds it. We'll go into town if we have to, just not every day or even every other day. But having the kids trap their own dinner does sound like a good idea.

LOL,,, You'll have a great time. Most folks tend to put on to much a feed bag anyway. But I do hope you keep a few surprises hinden till the evening when you hear there stomacks doing a little growling. You know like a can of Doyle fruit stored in its natuaral juice. Nothing like saveing the grapes and cherries till last. Bill

Hey there it is really a fun having of tent camping I had gone twice for camping along with my collegues in a really deep forest having different kinds of animals on top of the hill.It was scaring but we enjoyed a lot camping walking long distances and moving with all the camping stuffs like rope, spade, tent, weapons for our safety.I had gone in a training camp so our commander made us understand every thing and we were going accordingly to avoid any accident. Its interesting to go along in a camp.

I remember visiting Lake George twice by RV in the late 60's and early 70's. They had a nice amusement park there, Fort Ticonderoga, etc. Great places for kids. My old co-worker owned the Knotty Pine Diner for some years there in the early 90's. Pretty nice area all around.
